Well, if you didn't know from my previous thread, I am cooking some things for Christmas this year. I am in charge of smoking the turkey and chicken and dumplings. I am going to follow the instructions given to me in the thread for smoking a turkey so hopefully it won't mess up like mine one earlier this year. I never mess up my chicken and dumplings. What are you eating/cooking for the holidays?
i have a feeling we'll be headed to doneraki christmas night for fajitas. my wife can't cook but she looks good.
Is it just me or are less and less women picking up cooking? Most of the women I know that are below the age of 40 can't cook at all and eat out quite often. I know my girlfriend can't even cook a hot dog.
Everything. I just got back from the store with 1/2 gallon chocolate milk, peanuts, and some junior mints for a snack. I had pizza for lunch and chimichangas for dinner the past two nights. I am going to have to go on a major diet after New Years. But I'm splurging until then.
my wife would burn water. but she's awesome! incredible friend and mom. i can't cook, either, so i can't begin to complain. her favorite food is seafood gumbo at Pappadeaux. wish i could make her gumbo that tastes that good.
normally we have a meal like that of Thanksgiving. With turkey etc. but I'm not headed home this year. Having xmas dinner with my sister's fiancées (sp?!) family's house.
party: Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the LORD your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the LORD your God always. 24 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), 25 then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. 26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice
For the gf's family in Austin, I was put in charge of the bigos this year. It's the Polish national dish, and a traditional Christmas thing. Cooked it a few days ago, and have been cooking it for an hour or so every day since (it gets more tasty when you cool it & reheat it a few times). Sauerkraut, cabbage, wild mushrooms smuggled from Poland by her mom, venison & pork cut into chunks, kielbasa, crushed fresh tomatoes, few dried prunes, lotsa black pepper, onion, a little sherry & some Shiner Bock. It's freaking delicious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigos Stopped by the Polish deli on the way out of Houston, we're all kinds of hooked up with various kielbasas, hams, smoked fish & cheeses (they fly stuff in fresh every week from a butcher in Chicago). Picked up bagels at the Hot Bagel Shop & a coupla loaves of bread from Central Market. Made a cream cheese spread with some lox I made from salmon my folx caught in British Columbia. So breakfast for the next few days is pretty much taken care of. I'm sure I'll get to help make pierogis & other stuff as well for Sunday night. Most Poles do their big Christmas thing on Christmas Eve: church, wine, dinner, vodka, presents, more vodka. Should get to bed around 3AM. Then it's off to the ranch for my families' Christmas on the 25th. Went hunting last week, and my bro & I saved a whole venison hindquarter (ham) to roast for dinner that afternoon. Not sure what exactly we're going to do with it; he's a chef, so I'd imagine he has some ideas.

This may sound weird but we have stuffed squid w/ Linguine and meatball soup. Italian tradition in my family.
BIG turkey Dressing Gravy! Glazed Ham Mashed potatoes Sweet potatoes Green bean casserole Lima beans Creamed corn Cranberry sauce Fruit salad Green salad Sweet pickles & stuffed olives Deviled eggs Pumpkin pie Pecan pie Chocolate cream pie Frozen strawberry & ice cream layered angel food cake w/whipped cream Iced tea Coffee Oh, and you start with an empty stomach! She's 83, and Mom still does it! (rimrocker would fit right in! )
Good, I see I'm not the only one that has to eat turkey again on Xmas. I thought only my mom was weird.
For some reason my mom's side of the family, who's having dinner on the 23rd, is going with a Mexican themed Christmas dinner. We aren't Mexican. I like Mexican food, but...
We're doing Italian this year. Turkey sucks. It puts you to sleep. I think a lot of people think Thanksgiving is enough for turkey eating and want to mix it up come X-mas. All I know is I felt like I had a big hangover after eating that Thanksgiving meal. I ended up crashing hard on the sofa.
I made blackened catfish and jambalaya last night. Chinese food on Christmas Day...it's a family tradition. I have a Turkey to smoke and I might do it sometime over the holidays. I will probably fire up the smoker a couple of times over the holidays. I've got some serious broccoli action to harvest in the garden so I will whip out the wok and do some chicken and broccoli stirfry early next week.
This is Fatty FatBastard. I forgot to log T Rex out. Alright. I'll hook y'all up with my family's 3 generation old recipe for egg nog. I've already had to make 3 gallons of the stuff and my friends keep asking for more. Dozen egg yolks 2 cups sugar fifth of dark rum 1 quart whole milk 1/2 gallon blue bell vanilla ice cream put the egg yolks in a blender. Put blender on lowest setting. Gradually add the suger. Like 8-10 parts. The slowly add the rum. Blend for 5 minutes. The place that in a large container. Add the whole milk. Then nuke the ice cream. I typically go 30 secs a pop. That's it. Top it off with nutmeg. Everyone absolutely loves this. Happy holidays f***ers.
