I am having my kitchen floor tiled and decided to do it now because there is a friend who claims that he will beat anyone's price to install it. I have no idea what the going rate is for labor and how much they charge. I see places like Home Depot and Lowes charging like 3.50 a square foot for labor. Does anyone here know what is a typical rate for tiling a floor? My kitchen will end up being 550 square feet. Any help is appreciated.

Depends, I got a few carnales that sit at the corner of I-45 North and Aldine Bender at around 6:30 am waiting for work. Might wanna check em out. I am sure they will give you a good deal.

    3.50 is pretty cheap.

    Do it yourself.

Tiling's fun... as long as you have good knee pads.

Cutting the tiles always scared me. I work in the Interior Design field and I have heard some pretty interesting stories of, let's call it "mishaps". This one guy cut his thing in half. (he cut it longways, if that makes sense).
This guy worked for a builder here in town..I guess he got a bit too comfortable with the wet saw. ;)

I did a few years back. I mean my guy was a guy who worked for a friend. He was one of those show up one day, do 2/3 of the work and then not show up for 3 days and then magically reappear. He was cheap. Was less than three a foot but I had him do the kitchen, both bathrooms (inside tub also), kitchen, and back splash so I threw a lot of money at him at once. He had the saw but I had to pay for all the thinset, grout, sealant. etc. I mean tiling is something that can go very wrong, very easily. However there is cheap labor out there. You just need to know somebody, who knows somebody, who knows somebody.

I wish I would give you a price but it was so long ago. My suggestion, don't use Lowes or HD and don't use a contractor who doesnt do it himself. Find a guy who does his own work so you don't have to pay for the sub subcontractor mark up.
