What are the chances...or how long will it be before Langhi starts?

Man I think this guy is a sure talent and can really help the Rockets this year. I would really love to see this kid start soon. What I saw in the summer league games really impressed me; during a Rockets/Jazz contest he crossed over the small forward big time at the top of the key then pulled up and drained a 20 footer. The kid was listed at 6'11" but I dont know how accurate that is.

So my question is...how long will it take him to crack the starting lineup (assuming that he does)...and do you guys think he should be in the starting lineup over Walt Williams.

Rudy is a bit slow to make the change to starting a rookie, he likes to have them come off the bench, ala Sam Cassell.

I think Rudy will start Walt, and let Langhi play behind him. I do think that Langhi is already a better player then Walt, and hope that I am wrong and Rudy starts him.

I think Dan Langhi will be starting by mid-season.

Well it all depends on Walt Williams. If he can maintain his play like he did at the end of the season then there will no reason to push Dan Langhi into the starting position. I think a lot of Rocket fans forget he has to play against a great/young small forwards like Odom, Abdur-Rahim, KG and Pippen. Every other night he's playing All-star caliber SF's. Unless Dan Langhi can show he can play better defense, I'm not sure he'll start that much. We all know he can shoot the rock. Just an opinion.

    How about this?

    Walt 24 mins

    Langhi 24 mins

Then, would everyone be happy? [IMG]

I think Dan has to show that he can score in the league. No offense but summer league is just that, an opportunity for players to show their offense(no defense applied). When the season starts and he has to match up against players such as Vince Carter, KG, Abdur-Rahim, #33 in Portland, and Kobe who all play excellent defense on the perimeter, and he can score 13-15 pts a night, then start talking about putting him into the starting lineup. Until then, he's gotta wait for his chance and make the most of it. Walt is a proven vet in the league who can give you 15 pts a night(no defense though) and hit the big shot when called upon. These are things Dan has yet to prove. I truly hope he turn out to be more like Wally Szerbiak and less like Buck Johnson.

If Walt continues to play as he did towards the end of the season, expect Landgi to see only garbage time. But Walt goes back to his unconsistent form that we are know he is capable of doing, then expect Landgi to get more minutes, only as long as he can produce in the time he is given.

If Walt stinks up the joint....

    And Langhi tears it up....

Then I can see Langhi's minutes gradually increasing and Walt's gradually decreasing, and maybe Langhi even cracking the starting lineup sometime during the latter part of the season. Otherwise Walt should remain the starter and Langhi the bench player....and that's what I think will happen for most if not all of next season. Sure Langhi played well during the RMR, but he is still a rookie and must establish himself both offensively and defensively against stringent NBA competition. The faster he adapts, the sooner he has a shot at a starting spot.

Ummm what about Shandon Anderson, FC? After all you were one of the biggest advocates of him starting at SF (and Cat at SG) [IMG]

Doesn't Rudy choose his starting lineup based on training camp and pre-season performance? If Langhi outplays Walt, I won't be surprised if get the start over Walt. If I remember it right, that's what happened to Matt Maloney.

Matt Maloney only had to beat out Brent Price and Randy Livingston. The Wiz himself could play PG better than Price or Livingston. I like Langhi's game a lot, but he still weighs about 25 lbs less than Walt and he's gonna have trouble his first year guarding the more physical SF's. I say Walt and Shandon will get the bulk of the playing time at that spot.

Here is the other board's FranchiseCat, ColdHard. Good that you came over to this site too.

And here's an answer to the original question:

In twenty years when he joins a rec league after retiring as one of the most versatile, sharpshooting sixth men to ever play.

And Shandon definitely should start at the 3, but if not go with Walt or KT over Langhi.

Well, defense is not a good argument for Walt as he is also lacking in that area. I may be inclined to believe though that Rudy may start Walt based on last year's end of the season performance.

One thing I notice is that whoever starts will be given ample opportunity by Rudy to protect his playing time before Rudy tinkers with the line-up again. So what that means in my opinion is, if Walt starts then Langhi will linger in the bench for quite some time before he cracks the rotation as Rudy will slide Anderson to SF when Cat goes in.

Same thing will happen to Walt (warming the bench) if he gets in a slump, IMO.

We'll see what happens. Can't wait till the season start.

Yea, good point. The lineup won't be changed for a while. Walt was just awful for so long at the start of last year and it wasn't until something like January that he got benched.

I just thought that I would go ahead and say this for whatever its worth... When we drafted Langhi all you guys hated him since he was the "next Air Bullard." So i stepped in and told you guys that we got a steal and that he was a great player with heart and hustle.

BUT, now that you guys saw what he MAYBE can do in the summer league, lets not raise the bar too far.... the kid is a rookie, we know he has the mechanics, so give him some time.... as I said before.... we got a steal. But I don't think it is time just yet to start jumping like wild men on the Langhi bandwagon, because as soon as he hits a few rough spots along the way, all of you will turn from his biggest fan to his biggest critic. SO lets just wait and see OK?

Langhi will start as soon as Walt hits his typical shooting slump, say 5 games into the season.

Walt's been fairly durable over his 8 year career. I think Walt will only miss a total of 14-18 games due to slump and/or injury. Langhi will start those 14-18. Walt will go about 25-27 minutes when starting. Shandon will pickup about 10-12 at SF. The remaining minutes (9-13) will be Langhi's.

Just on a purely intuitive level, I think one of these guys (Wiz or Lanky) is going to be a very positive surprise for the season....just intuition, nothing logical.....

I forgot about Shandon at SF. But you must have me confused about Shan starting at the 3 and Cat at the 2. I think Cat should always be our 6th man off the bench to provide that spark when needed. So with that said....

    Walt 16 mins
    Shan 16 mins
    Dan 16 mins

My bad, maybe I confused you with someone else (there is a guy on another board by the exact same name).
