Rushmore: Herman Bloom drinking from his glass of liquor before springing off the diving board in cannonball position into the pool. (Kinks in the background.) Blade Runner: Opening scene. Los Angeles November 2019. Fireballs shooting from buildings. Eyeball reflecting fire. (Vangelis) Hypnotic! Friday Night Lights: Coach Gary Gaines: "I want you to take a moment, and I want you to look each other in the eyes. I want you to put each other in your hearts forever because forever is about to happen here in just a few minutes. I want you to close your eyes, and I want you to think about Boobie Miles, who is your brother. And he would die to be out there in that field with you tonight. And I want you to put that in your hearts. Boys my heart is full. My heart is full." (Explosions in the Sky) Clerks: Jay: "I feel good today, Silent Bob, we're gonna make some money, then you know what we're going to do? We're gonna go to that party, we're gonna get some p**sy, and I'm gonna f**k this b**ch, I'ma f**k this b**h, I'll f**k ANYTHING THAT MOVES! Yo, what the f**k you lookin' at, I'll kick your f**kin' ass! ***** yeah. Doesn't that f**ker owe me 10 bucks? You know, f**kin' tonight, we're gonna rip off this f**ker's head, and take out his f**kin' soul!! Remind me if he tries to buy something, I'm gonna ***** in the motherf**ker's bag. Hey, what's up baby? What's up, sluts?" Enter the Dragon: Bruce Lee battling mirrors and the steel-clawed Han. Slacker: Old Man quote: "When young, we mourn for one woman... as we grow old, for women in general. The tragedy of life is that man is never free yet strives for what he can never be. The thing most ferared in secret always happens. My life, my loves, where are they now? But the more the pain grows, the more this instinct for life somehow asserts itself. The necessary beauty in life is in giving yourself to it completely. Only later will it clarify itself and become coherent." Dumb and Dumber: After Lloyd takes a wrong turn; Harry: I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this. Lloyd: I was thinking the same thing. That John Denver's full of ****, man.
BraveHeart: Big speech on battle field. Apacolypto (sp?) : When the dude is being chased by the Jaguar.
I wouldn't say that was one of my "favorite move scenes," but that is one of my favorite movie quotes, for sure. The opening War Room scene in Dr. Strangelove is pretty darn awesome.
Some of these scenes contain spoilers, don't click on them if you're really concerned about that kind of crap. Gladiator: Battle of Germania Scene Music goes perfectly with the quick-paced battle. Pretty epic speech by Croweman as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPKtkBlyncw&feature=related V for Vendetta Domino Scene Music worked well and it really showed how everything was interconnected...and really reinforced how powerful the concept of no coincidences was. Plus the dominoes falling were pretty damn cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo-L8idypSg Der Untergang Capitulation Scene Intensely powerful. You can just feel the defeat and agony Germany is about to suffer through the hands of the USSR/Allies and the uncertainty/hope that follows the end of a long conflict. Given how many intense moments the film had about "never surrendering again" about never repeating "1918", this scene just reeks of tragedy and serves well to remind us that the German people were as much victims of Hitler as the rest of the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIocj9hmEsE Shawshank Redemption: Andy Escapes Most powerful scene of all time. nuff said. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8u6wUv-kao
Just a smattering that come to mind... Serenity: After discovering the Alliance's dirty little secret...."Y'all got on this boat for different reasons, but y'all come to the same place. So now I'm asking more of you than I have before. Maybe all. Sure as I know anything, I know this - they will try again. Maybe on another world, maybe on this very ground swept clean. A year from now, ten? They'll swing back to the belief that they can make people... better. And I do not hold to that. So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave." Face/Off: First and last gunfights The Abyss: the entire last act Road to Perdition: scene in church basement...John Rooney: There are only murderers in this room! Michael! Open your eyes! This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee: none of us will see heaven. Michael Sullivan: Michael could. John Rooney: Then do everything that you can to see that that happens. The Matrix: opening scene Armageddon: President's speech and launch sequence....yeah I know what Armageddon is but dammit if I don't love that movie in all it's stupid popcorn goodness...and dammit Michael Bay can make a money shot of anything.
Remember the Titans... like 1/2 the movie... Honesty? You want honesty? All right, honestly, I think you're nothing. Nothing but a pure waste of God-given talent. You don't listen to nobody, man. Not even Doc or Boone! Shiver push on the line every time, man. You blow right past 'em! Push 'em! Pull 'em!Do something! You can't run over everybody in this league, and every time you do, you leave one of your teammates hanging out to dry-- me in particular! Why should I give a hoot about you, huh? Or anybody else out there? You want to talk about a waste, you the captain? Right. - Captain's supposed to be the leader, right? -Right. You got a job? You been doing your job? I've been doing my job. Then why don't you tell your white buddies to block for Rev better? 'Cause they have not blocked for him worth a plugged nickel, and you know it! Nobody plays! Your self included! I'm supposed to wear myself out for the team? What team?! No. No, what I'm gonna do is, I'm gonna look out for myself, and I'm gonna get mine. See, man? That's the worst attitude I ever heard. Attitude reflects leadership, Captain.
The Godfather baptism scene where they juxtapose the baptism with knocking off all the competing Mafia bosses. Apocalypse Now on the beach with Robert "smell of napalm in the morning" Duvall.
Conan the Barbarian: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/V30tyaXv6EI&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/V30tyaXv6EI&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Mean Streets: When Johnny Boy (Robert DeNiro) comes in the bar with the two girls and he films it in slow motion with a completely red background to "Jumping Jack Flash." One of the best ever. Night of the Hunter: When the kids are on the raft escaping from the deranged preacher/stepdad and they show all these weird close-ups of spider webs, frogs, etc. The French Connection: The scene with the car chasing the train. The Shining: The twins Carrie: The end with the hand popping out of the grave Midnight Cowboy: The psychedelic party McCabe and Mrs. Miller: the whole movie A Fish Called Wanda: The scene with the "Mr. Manfrengensen." What's Up Doc: The trial scene: "Who are you?" "I am Hugh." "You are me?" "No, I am Hugh." "MAKE HIM STOP SAYING THAT!" Same movie: "Sorry I burned down your hotel room." "That's OK, we have......lots of others." Young Frankenstein: "Putting on the Ritz" Blazing Saddles: Baked beans- nuff said The Wild Bunch: the shootout at the end Psycho: "He wouldn't hurt a fly" Monty Python: "When suddenly the animator died of a heart attack." Seems Like Old Times- the trial scene: "So the criminals were apprehended by you and 6 of your dogs." "No, only 2 of the dogs are ours. The others acted on their own." Not movies, but all the little close-up vignettes in the show The Office: Michael: "Guess what? I have flaws. I volunteer too much, I sing in the shower, I hit people with my car. So sue me! No, don't actually sue me- that's not the point I was trying to make." Some of those sound like quotes, but it's the actor's reactions and the way they say them that make the scenes great.
"He told me you killed him." "No, I am your father." You take away the prequels and that scene is epic...
robocop.. i watched it for the first time with my father when i was nine and it scarred my childhood. only years later would i grow to appreciate this masterpiece enjoy <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tjEdLuqK1RQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tjEdLuqK1RQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
To Kill a Mockingbird: when Miss Maudie is telling Scout and Jem about how some men are just born to do our nasty jobs and your father is one of those men. Guess Whose Coming to Dinner?: when Sidney Poitier's "mother" awakens Spencer Tracy by scolding him about the inability of old men to remember and feel love. Les Miserable: the opening scene when the bishop reminds the main character who he "really" is. The Office: "Yeah, I just hate my job..." (at lunch with Jennifer Anniston) Heat: Al Pacino pulling over Robert DeNiro and having coffee in the diner like buddies.... "I'm gonna hafta put you down..."
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - Tuco running around the cemetery with The Ecstacy of Gold blaring in the background. My favorite movie scene of all time. Conan the Barbarian - Conan's prayer to Crom before the epic Battle of the Mounds. Conan: Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! Bloodsport - Van Dam's training montage near the beginning of the movie. Rocky 2 - When Adrian wakes up from the coma. She had been a total nag all throughout the movie up to this point. Adrian: There's one thing I want you to do for me. Rocky Balboa: What's that? Adrian: Win. For a Few Dollars More - Final showdown between Indio and Colonel Mortimer. Manco: Now we start.
GREAT thread topic Good Will Hunting -- the last 2 minutes or so...and Affleck's lecture to Damon about him wasting his life that leads up to Damon not being there when he knocks Signs -- the last 5 minutes or so...when he realizes there was immense purpose and meaning in all the randomness, tragedy and irritation of his life before that moment Die Hard -- when he tells Hans that he's stuck with him unless he'll open the front door to let him out. the brilliance of that movie was 1) the pacing and 2) the believablity of that character amidst the Arnold/Sylvester heroes of the movies of that day. I was only in 9th grade at the time, but still realized I was seeing something special just from that scene alone. I can't think of a reluctant hero that preceded John McLane in action movies. But the pacing of that whole movie (just like Dark Knight) is what sets it apart completely. Dark Knight -- virtually any time Ledger was on the screen Garden State -- the conversation with his father before he leaves to go back to LA is brilliant. Heat -- Deniro and Pacino across the table from one another Pulp Fiction -- too many to count...but Samuel Jackson's conversation with Tim Roth at the diner (at gunpoint) is awesome Passion of the Christ -- the initial scene in the Garden when he's praying...asking for an alternative to what he knows is coming...stepping on the snake's head. There's no snake in the Biblical account...but the metaphor was powerful (and goes back to OT prophecy)...but the power of that time in the Garden the night before his crucifixion jumps off the pages of the Bible...and I think this is the only movie where I've seen it done justice. Shows the humanity of Christ in an almost overwhelming way. I'm sure I'll think of more
