I was listening to a great new band (to me at least) Sahara Hotnights. I started thinking about some of my other favorite female bands (solo artists too) and bands with a guy for a lead singer with heavy female input like the White Stripes. I was just wondering if anyone had some favs they would like to share with the BBS. My list: Sahara Hotnights Chicks on Speed Elastica Edie Brickell Apples in Stereo Breeders White Stripes Yeah Yeah Yeahs Macy Gray Missy Elliot
Avril Lavigne and Evanescence! AND TATU!!! They're not gonna get us!!! Dixie Chicks are Texans...is Destiny's Child counted as a band?
I was thinking the bands didn't have to have a female lead singer as long as there was a heavy female influence. I think 50% of a band would count, though some might disagree with the amount of Meg's actual influence. I like Destinys Child and Beyonce alot, they are one of the few "popish" groups I enjoy.
1. Sleater-Kinney - undoubtedly, the best all girl band there is. 2. Lauryn Hill 3. Lucinda Williams 4. PJ Harvey 5. Bjork 6. Liz Phair 7. Hole 8. Aimee Mann 9. Cat Power 10. Tori Amos 11. Missy Elliot
Liz Phair Garbage Kate Bush Elastica Jonatha Brooke Juliana Hatfield Missing Persons Nikka Costa Hole Joni Mitchell Suzanne Vega
Great band even though she's the only chick. I get what you mean. I still listen to them all the time. They're from dallas. What about The Donnas? I've liked what I've heard of them. And how could you forget The Go Go's? EDIT: Ms. JB, I love Missing Persons. I still listen to Spring Session M....on cassette
Pretty damn close. I don't think there's any band who's been as consistenly good from 1996 to the present...some would say Radiohead.
I heard her new single on the radio today and I thought it was by some teeny bopper pop star. weird. Sarah McLachlan (she's on Run DMC's remake of Cats in the Cradle) Tori Amos Ani DiFranco Annie Lennox/Eurhytmics Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs Melissa Etheridge Tracy Chapman
Yeah, that's why I said "straightforward". Radiohead's studio trickery disqualifies them. No band with two guitars and a drum set comes close to S-K. They don't need no bassist to kick out the jams.
From talking to people, I take it that I'm the only guy in America who can't stand the lead singer's voice.
probably so, I'm more of a hardcore metal guy..and I like that band. my list.. Benatar Heart Runaways(Lita and joan jett) Evanescence Femme Fatale b**** Stevie Nicks and isnt Poison really a bunch of chicks? if so..add them..
