Sorry folks, no pics but I had to share my disbelief. Today I was driving from Port Aransas to Austin and went through the Texas historical town of Goliad. This is the same town where Col. James Fannin along with about 300 of his troops were slaughtered & burned by the troops of Gen. Santa Anna about 2 weeks after the fall of the Alamo in 1836. The slaughter at Goliad, along with that in San Antonio led to a revived Texan resistance against Santa Anna's forces under Texas Gen. Sam Houston, and sparked the battle cry "Remember the Alamo!" and "Remember Goliad! (La Bahia)," eventually culminating in the defeat of Mexican forces at San Jacinto, which led to Texas independence from Mexico. For those familiar with Texas history you may recall that there is an old Spanish mission in Goliad called Presidio La Bahia, which was used for shelter by the Texas troops and is only a few yards from the grave and memorial of Col. Fannin and his troops. On top of the mission itself, where Texas Historical Markers abound in number, the flag of the state of Texas was promiently displayed UPSIDE DOWN!!!! Naturally, I was quite shocked at the sight, as I would liken it to the flag being flown upside down at the Alamo, or at the San Jacinto monument and an extreme sign of disrespect. I don't understand how anyone with any sense of the historical value of that sight could have been thoughtless enought to fly the flag upside down. Many from out-of-state probably couldn't care less, but to see the red at the top of the flag at a supposed landmark of Texas history leaves me quite disturbed.
This is the second report of an upside-down Texas flag being flown that I've read about in the past week on message boards. What's this world coming to. Respect the flag!
Wow. There's no excuse for that. If you don't know which stripe is on the bottom, here's a hint: look at the star, dumbass. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. Geeeeeeee Ayyyyyyyyyyyye JOE!!!
