Hi Crew I dont post much but i have been an avid reader for years. I just wanted to say how exciting this season has been for me. Probably the best season i have had following the rockets since the initial hype when we partnered tmac with yao. At the start of this season i genuinely thought we would struggle but i was excited to see how our young core would develop. Previous years it had been the same old veterans doing a great job but their potential was limited. Then the James Harden trade!!!!! Wow was i excited i kept thinking we have an amazing core now and no matter what happens its going to be fun. Fast forward through an amazingly exciting year and im still crazily excited to be in the playoffs for the first time in what seems like forever. So while there is alot of negativity at the moment how many people genineuly thought we would be as good as we hae been, as exciting, and as young. Here is to the Team, coaches, the staff, the fans go you good things. I think we have had a great season and no matter what happens in this first round we are in the playoffs and the future is bright. Hodgo
We took a big step forward this season, and I believe in Morey to put the right pieces together so we can com
Absolutely. I dont post much either. But I am very happy with this season. The threads I am seeing are so negative. I just hope these fans can put things in perspective and appreciate what we have done so far.
I like when the focus isn't on the raging Harden vs. Lin vs. Mchale saga. Well said OP. It's a shame some people don't realize how solid our outlook is.
Mostly the 12/13ers, they lack proper perspective and bball knowledge. It's too bad that on a season we have accomplished so much that the LOFs had to ruin the board by getting on Harden/McHale so much (Yes, they both have their warts but come on, 45 wins!)
Agreed to what OP said. People need to be grateful that the rocks even made it to the playoffs. Just enjoy what the team is doing. Everything else just icing on the cake. This is just their first year together! Woot!
Have you watched the GS vs DEN game yet? Had the Rockets won the last two games they would be in a much much better situation now!
8th* *While turning over 14/15th of the roster and fielding the youngest roster in the entire NBA, not just among contenders. Hell yea 8th is something to root for. But it's just a start. The biggest thing to watch will be how Morey goes about getting that second superstar. I'm not entirely convinced that the right step isn't to just not sign anyone this offseason and let the young players play out one more year. The real fruit comes in two years when Aldridge and Love might potentially shake free.
Was just about to make a similar thread. BRAVO TO THE ROCKETS ENTIRE TEAM Maybe not their coach... but everyone else.
2012-13 Houston 45 - 37 .549 3rd Southwest Division - - 2011-12 * Houston 34 - 32 .515 4th Southwest Division - - DNQ 2010-11 Houston 43 - 39 .524 5th Southwest Division - - DNQ 2009-10 Houston 42 - 40 .512 3rd Southwest Division - - DNQ 2008-09 Houston 53 - 29 .646 2nd Southwest Division 7 - 6 .538 Lost West Conf Semis 2007-08 Houston 55 - 27 .671 3rd Southwest Division 2 - 4 .333 Lost West Conf 1st Rd 2006-07 Houston 52 - 30 .634 3rd Southwest Division 3 - 4 .429 Lost West Conf 1st Rd So essentially we picked up 2-3 wins over the last few years on average with adding a True Center, Chandler Parsons emergence as a bonafide starter with a big upside, adding Lin and a "GENUINE SUPERSTAR" in Harden. I guess we have come a long way baby.
It feels great to read posts like this from vets here. When one of us "2012/2013ers" writes something like this, we get insulted but when vets do it, there is no proper response and people just shut up.
Feel the same, and would still feel that way if we got swept out of the playoffs. As I've said many times, this season would be a resounding success even if we finished 9th again. The haters will always say "we haven't improved" but they are well aware of the context-rape they are engaging in to make it seem like nothing has changed. There is a vast difference between finishing 9th with players who are over their prime years vs finishing 9th with players most of whom are nowhere near their prime years. These guys have shown that they know what to work on in the summer. A taste of the playoffs will make them even hungrier, despite the high motor most of them displayed this year. I sincerely believe that without any changes, this roster could finish between 4th and 6th next year. With a good FA acquisition, I think we're a lock for homecourt. Lin will be better. All our PFs will improve. Asik will improve. Smith will improve. Beverley will have a training camp. Harden, hopefully, will have a better feel for when to take over a game (I'd say he's already good at this). Parsons is quite good at everything now so I think he needs to keep that stamina high so that his development on D keeps up with his development on O. Just a great season. I look forward to the playoff series, which is a great bonus for a team that has worked so hard. Whatever happens, it's nice to be out of the woods and feel like we will probably be in the playoffs not only this season, but all of the near future.
I'm sure what he means by saying "Long way" is how this team for the past few years had absolutely no direction. You're only looking improvements by looking at the win-loss column. But we need to look past their regular season record: 1) Complete roster overhaul - only 2 players from last year's roster on this year's playoff roster (Parsons, G. Smith-played mostly in D-League) 2) 3 players going from bench players to full-time starters 3) YOUNG team with lots of potential for growth 4) Plenty of cap space for a "splash" signing(s) 5) Young team getting playoff exposure and experience It's one thing to look at this team and say they did well even though they're young, but this is a team who only had 8 of their current 15 on the roster at training camp (Asik, Lin, Smith, Parsons, Delfino, T Jones, Royce, Dmo). For a team this young to come together this quickly and make the playoffs in the WEST is a great sign for things to come! Win or lose, it's gonna be an awesome series as long as Harden and Lin play smart and efficiently.
