No this is no crazy scheme (or logical scheme) to ensure the teams with the best records get into the playoffs. I was just thinking, would the NBA Playoffs be better served if they rearranged playoff match-ups in the second round like they do in the NFL and NHL. So this would mean if say they 1st, 5th, 3rd, and 7th seeds one in the 1st round, the second round would be 1st vs 7th and 5th vs 3rd seeds instead of 1st vs 5th and 3rd vs 7th seeds. I could see this as potentially ensuring better conference finals and nba finals series by "protecting" the higher seeds, but not sure if it would make the entire playoffs better or not. Thoughts?
What does that have to do with the original post? As to the original post, I'm indifferent. Either way is fine with me.
uh, no.. what he means is that the remaining highest seed gets to play the remaining lowest seed, and so on....
Like JuanValdez, I'm indifferent to it. On the one hand, it reduces the possibilities of Cinderella stories somewhat, but it does reward teams for producing in the regular season and getting those top seeds. I wouldn't be upset if they changed it, but I'm not upset about it now.
He offered his version of a playoff tweak and I offered mine. Just put the top 16 teams and seed them like college basketball only going by record and not committee. Forget all the conference stuff and make sure the two best teams make it to the finals.
with the first two seeds in each conference getting a buy to the second round that would leave a first round that looks like: 3/8 4/7 5/6 unless you drop or add two teams from each conference to the playoffs, this formant doesn't work.
he mentioned nothing about byes. Def. gotta read more than "similar to the NFL" in the orig. post before responding...
