I think he is an unrestricted free agent this year. Surely some teams may go after him as a starter, but he may choose at this point in his career to continue to be a backup with a team that has a chance at winning a championship. Sure it's more logical in that case for him to stay with OKC, but if he wanted to come back to the Rockets and backup Harden, would you be for it and if so at what price would you be willing to pay to have him as a backup to shorten Harden's minutes next season? I think he would be a great backup for Harden, but I can't think of what price would be ideal that would make sense for him considering all the cap possibilities.
No. He's going to get paid 7-8m +. He would help the team, but as a bandaid fix. I would rather just save the cap space until the Rockets can snag a big name FA.
What do you mean by bandaid fix? We are talking about as a 6th man to back up Harden, not to lead the team or be the second superstar. What big name FA would be better suited that we can get for around 5 mil? Or even yet, what is a good price to even pay for a good backup to give Harden some serious backup minutes?
Im sure the team is waaayyy more focused on using their cap space to either sign a max free agent, or go out and trade for one. Getting a guy like Kevin Martin at this point in his career, in that kind of role, would be a move you make after your team is already set, and you can use your mid-level exception to sign him. Not gonna happen, but good try.
He would be awesome off the bench. They guy was supposed to be our go-to-go on offense for a time and that failed miserably, quite an asset off the bench though. Would do great when Lin is bringing the ball up. If we could finagle some extra cap room post a big signing I would not be opposed if it was in the 6-8 mil range. If we are at the point where we have two all stars on the team (Harden+FA) it's time to start looking at the Kevin Martin and Jason Terrys of the world when you are looking to push through into a competitive team in the playoffs.
We need that cap space to sign a true superstar/star in free agency. As it is we barely have enough money for a max contract. And i highly doubt Kmart signs for that low unless the team is bonafide contender.
Ideally, we want Delfino playing rotation minutes at the 2 and the 3. He's playing 4 in crunch time because we can't trust DMo or Robinson on the floor to finish games right now. I think with some more experience, one of our two PF prospects will get to that level of consistency to where we can have them on the court to close games.
Ok, im going to try and explain this best as I can. We are going to trade Omer Asik for Picks and Cap relief, same with J Lin come NBA Draft. We are not going to keep Delfino, we will Sign two more Max F/A. Paul, Howard. Championship. Simple
That's what I was thinking. But I guess we have to get that second superstar and see what we gave up to give them, then we can see what kind of money is left for a move like this. But I think he would sign a multi-year deal in that range.
No way we give up both come draft night. We won't trade ANYONE until AFTER either one signs the dotted line
Are you naysayers kidding me? Hell to the yeah i would take Martin as a back-up to Harden! A guaranteed 15+ points off the bench? All day! He ain't leaving OKC though.
