I haven't read a single post yet that has mentioned anything about Boozer. Boozer would certainly add bulk and a degree of toughness to the team. I think taking Butler over Wilcox with our first pick and Boozer with our Raps pick (C'mon Raps!), would give us a solid starting lineup. What do yall think about this?
Why not Wilcox, and Dixon with our picks? And we can't forget to resign Walt! Go Houston Terps er Rockets! I actually hope we do pick up Bulter if we don't get a top 3 pick. B edit: Duh! I knew Boozer was a Dukie... What was I thinking?
I've started at least 2 threads with the suggestion of taking Boozer with a second first-round pick. It was met with much resistance. I like it. Runs the floor. Some offense. Good FT shooting. Good strength instead of hops. Great kid. Who can't use one of those?!
If we're going to draft a bruiser who's charged with planting himself around the paint as an immovable object, I'd rather package KT and Toronto's pick to move down to #8 to #10 to get Chris Marcus. I'm not casting aspersions upon Carlos, but, if we did draft him, I would hope that we were doing so in order to trade him to Phoenix for Alton Ford.
Boozer's softer than a wet paper bag. Well not exactly but he's an undersized center without a very extensive offensive game. I'd say 75% of his points are open looks off penetration by Duke's guards. He's at best a poor man's kenny thomas. He may have a long carrear as a backup player, but I don't see him as anything worth warenting a first round pick for the Rockets, especially since he doesn't really address any of the team's needs. He's not a center, and he's not a small forward. Now if only TMo would get his shooting touch back, the small forward problem wouldn't be nearly as bad.
Boozer has some good offensive skills for a guy his size but I argee with Jaybird that Boozer is soft. He also isn't much of a defender--even in college, and has had plentyful leg/feet problems. I would spend a 2nd round pick on him because of his size and offensive abilities, but no way would I spend a pick lower than 20 something on him. I see a guy who hangs around the NBA for a long time, but who is never more than an 8th or 9th man if that.
But without the deadly jumper out to 20 feet, without the ball handling abilities, without the playmaking ability off the dribble, etc... I'd pass on Boozer. As someone already mentioned, his fabulous shooting percentage in college can be attributed to the number of open layups he got off penetration by Duke guards. He doesn't have great size, doesn't have great post moves, is an average rebounder, and plays a position we're already stacked at. I'd pass.
