When Bob Brenly was asked after the game why he left Kim in so long, he replied, "Manager's decision."
Or until they institute a salary cap, and they aren't allowed to outspend everyone and they don't win it every year...
Rocketman this is really getting old! I'd like to point out that 5 out of 9 Yankee starters came up through the Yankee farm club. Sure they spend money. Who doesn't in this day and age? But they also know how it develop their own players.
75% don't. Many clubs know how to develop talent...it's just paying for that talent when it finally reaches the majors. The way the game is set up now, in the next few years, the Astros will probably have to lose at least 3 of the following players-Roy Oswalt, Carlos Hernandez, Tim Redding, Wade Miller, Octavio Dotel...especially if they develop like they're supposed to. And you know who'll be right there picking them up? The Yankees of the world. Sure it's not getting old to you, but it would be if you weren't a Yankee fan.
Amen rocketman, look in the mirror yankee fans yeah you develop talent but so do the a's, marlins, astros etc. so whats the difference, oh thats it you on top of it go sign mike mussina to a 15 mil contract, trade for a 9 mil david justice in a pennant chase and can still afford to pay the likes of jeter, pettite, rivera in excess of 10 mil apiece. Thats a big discrepancy and a problem. Once theres a salary cap your dominance will fade and i for one, am waiting anxiously for that moment, because what ive seen the last two nights is bull crap-unfathomable and your team quite frankly isnt that good and im sick of hearing of the mythical yankee mystique and that their Americas team, which no one including the Cowgirls are
I was just having fun and making light of a game! Ok! Here's one for ya RM... You know what? If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the F**kin' kitchen. In other words, if the Astros or twins or whoever can't find an owner that is willing to spend the money. They should sell their team to someone who can. I'm sure there are many people out there that would love to own a baseball team. And I'm sure there are those that don't mind spending the money. I'm so tired of hearing "oh, but they spend all this money so they're always going to win". Well, duh' How's that? better?
I understand where you are coming from, but maybe at the same time you should understand the Yankees viewpoint. Do you expect all the Yankee fans to abandon their team because something is wrong with baseball? Of course not. Are the Yankees breaking any rules? No, they are merely taking the fullest advantage of what is allowed them. And of course they are not going to be in favour of revenue sharing and cap. No one in the history of this world had ever come out and said, "Geee I know I am a little too fortunate, let me give some of my wealth to you unfortunate fellows". Personally I am against revenue sharing. I think Stienberner said it the best. He said why should he give his money to lesser owners? So they can go out and sign talent away from the Yankees? They Yankees are trying to beat those team, yet at the same time they are expected to help them out financially so they can beat them. Saying that I would totally be in favour of a soft cap. That way the Yankees cannot always outspend the other teams.
Yankees fans are always in denial when it comes to the money. The Yankees take in many times the revenue that mid-market teams can generate. The Yankees have a $110+ payroll and STILL make a huge profit while other teams lose money with a $40 or $50 million payroll. The local tv and radio revenues for the Yankees dwarf that of the vast majority of MLB teams so if the Yankees run their club intelligently, as Brian Cashman is doing, they should win the World Series a lot.
Who cares how the Yankees got their players, that doesnt take away from how awesome the games have been. For ALL that money they are spending their offense has been crap, except when it counts. and for ALL that money they spend guys like Broscious and Tino have ghad the big hits, neither is in the top 10 at their respective position. Unit vs Petite and the Schilling vs Clemens. What an awesome World Series.
