I am pretty damn board with a couple of weeks leading up to the draft and no Rockets ball in the last couple of months. So I thought I would give my off season wish list and if you want you can give yours. Who would you like to see at the summer leagues and who do you want to see on the roster when training camp opens. Explain how we are going to acquire the players and please make it realistic. Here's mine - sign Mike James by way of sign and trade and using the trade exception. - sign VSpan with the MLE - sign Scott Padgett for his outside shooting at the 4 - trade down with Orlando for their 11th pick and Deshawn Stevenson - Pick Ronnie Brewer with the 11th pick. - Drafting P.J. Tucker with the 2nd round pick Our summer league team would have: V-Span Ronnie Brewer P.J. Tucker Chuck Hayes Our training Camp Roster: Reafer Alston V-Span Ronnie Brewer Mike James Luther Head DeShawn Stevenson P.J. Tucker Tracy McGrady Chuck Hayes Scott Padgett Stromile Swift Juwan Howard Deke Yao Ming That group is very versatile. We would have good defenders, shooters, slashers, rebounders and a lot of basketball I.Q. which I think would be very important. We could play half court or run the ball. There is also a lot of youth to go along with our Vets. While would not get one of the marquee power forwards in this draft we would at least have a 4 that can stretch defenses with Padgett. Additionally I would love to move Stromile for an additional mid to late 1st round draft pick. I would even entertain the thought of trading him for an early second round draft pick to add a sharp shooting player like Steve Novak or Kevin Pittsnoggle but that would give us 4 rookies on the team and realistically I think 3 is stretching it…but I would do it. I only list 14 players so there could be one more. Maybe everybody’s favorite bulldog (Bobby Sura) will come back for his last year. If we had an off season like this and went into this training camp with these players I would have a ton of hope for the new season.
I wish the Rockets could somehow send Juwan Howard and his fat contract packing on the next plane out of Houston.
Draft Ronnie Brewer (our Josh Howard), sign Mike James (our Jason Terry). We already have Tracy McGrady (our Dwyane Wade), Yao Ming (our Shaquille O'Neal), Rafer Alston (our Gary Payton), Chuck Hayes (our Haslem), Ryan Bowen (our "fill in the blank here"). Rockets Championship 06-07.
I have a few Scenario's although the emphasis is on wish Trade Juwan and Stro for Murphy and Fisher. Sign Mike James Draft Ronnie Brewer with the hopes he can play PG with James waitin' to score from the other guard spot. Positives: We get a 6'10 245lbs PF who can shoot the three and rebound. We lose Juwans contract. Add vet experience at the guard spot. At worst we could still start Alston at PG and have Ronnie play pure SG. Add depth and quality. Negatives: Murphy can't defend (can't be worse than Juwan right?). We'd be overflowing with guards should Brewer excel at the 1. Alston and Fisher would be backing him up..alot of money on the bench. We'd be committing alot of money to a player who will be turning 36 when his contract runs out...will likely end being an albatross. Murphy could bust for us, not likely. Outlook: Suits our win now mentality...Murphy is the best shooting 4 we can hope for who can at least contribute in other areas like rebounding. I think Fisher is good for at least one big playoff shot. We'd have a big line-up too. I'm undecided....my head says no due to the massive time and money committed to those players. Sign James Draft Brewer Trade Stro and Howard for Raef and Tony Allen Positives: Raef can shoot, rebound and block shots, same as above for James and Brewer. Allen is a young, athletic player to back up T-Mac. Negatives: MASSIVE contract but the same amount of yrs as Juwan while giving us more production. Has lost some step since his injury but has shown he can stroke it and produce in previous seasons. Lose depth at PF, but at least Hayes would get extra minutes. Outlook: Doable if Boston wants to get rid of Raef and add some Athleticism in Stro. Raef would have to produce and to me he could be the right guy for us, has averaged three blks in a season as well. Once again the dollars matter, but at least we wouldn't be locked into it any longer than Juwans contract. Otherwise, i'm just hoping that we draft Brewer, get rid of Juwan, get a shooting 4 who can also rebound and stay healthy. There's a million options, but i'd be dissapointed if we didn't make some moves to improve us dramatically.
Wish List #1 1. Trade Stromile Swift + Head + #8 Pick for Troy Murphy + #9 Pick. 2. Draft Ronnie Brewer w/ #8 Pick. 3. Draft PJ Tucker w/ #32 Pick. 4. Bring over Spanoullis w/ part of MLE. 5. Resign Wesley for vet minimum. 6. Try to get rid of Juwan. 05-06 Lineup: Yao-Deke Murphy-Howard-Hayes TMac-Tucker Brewer-Wesley Alston-Spanoullis Wish List #2 1. Draft Tyrus Thomas w/ #8 Pick, Gansey at #32 2. Trade Stromile Swift + Filler + Future 1st for MoPete + Eric Williams 3. Bring over Spanoullis. 06-07 Lineup: Yao-Deke Thomas-Howard TMac-Bowen MoPete-Gansey Alston-Head-Spanoullis
unfortunately Murphy's contract is BYC making it very difficult (if not impossible) to trade for him right now. i would start by drafting Brewer, and Signing MJ. I'd like to find a trade for Jho but i'm not sure if we can. Either way I think a healthy team plus the two player mantioned above will be anough to make a wun in the west.
No Padgett.... Not good enough anymore. No Stevenson.... Not good enough V Span not good enough and too expensive to bring over. Swift.... not good enough Howard ..... not good enough Mutombo... way way past it
^Uh, you're expecting way too much from the little assets we have to get the players you think we can get.
JHo + Stro for Murphy + Biedrens would work. <table BORDER="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td valign="top"><table> <TR><TD>Alston<TD>Sura<TD>* <TR><TD>*<TD>Head<TD>* <TR><TD>McGrady<TD>Rybo<TD>* <TR><TD>Murphy<TD>Biedrens<TD>Hayes <TR><TD>Yao<TD>(Biedrens)<TD>Deke </TD></TR></td></tr></table></td> <td valign="top"><table> <TR><TD>Davis<TD>Fisher<TD>Ellis <TR><TD>J-Rich<TD>Pietrus<TD>* <TR><TD>Dunleavy<TD>Cabarkapa<TD>* <TR><TD>J-Ho<TD>Swift<TD>Diogu <TR><TD>Foyle<TD>(Swift)<TD>Taft </td></tr></table></td></tr></table>
My dream offseason looks like this: 1. Trade for our first rounder in 2007 and cash for Seattle's #10 pick. Supposedly they either want to draft Sheldon or trade out of the first round. 2. Have either Gay, Thomas, or Roy fall to us at #8. 3. Draft Brewer at #10. 4. Draft Gansey at #32. 5. Sign Mike James to the full MLE for 3 years with the 3rd year being a player option. 6. Print our playoff tickets. 06-07 depth chart (I'll assume that Thomas is the one that falls since he's not doing competitive workouts): James/Rafer/Head Brewer/Head/Gansey T-mac/Brewer/Bowen (I can't believe we game him a player option) Juwan (I bet JVG keeps him as the starter)/Thomas/Stro/Hayes Yao/Stro/Deke Inactive list: Sura 15th man (maybe Bogans as a 3rd string SG/SF)
my line of thinking was it'd be compensation for taking on murphy's contract. two mle level guys should be easier to trade individually than murphy. if the rumour is true even jho nearly got us cassell this season but we turned minny down.
If anything, we should be compensating G.S. for taking on Juwan's deal contract. While Murphy has a pretty large contract, I don't think it would be all that hard since Murphy is a 15 & 10 guy that can shoot as well as any big man in the league. Juwan is on the decline and I don't think many teams would want a guy who doesn't rebound or defend, and only really has a mid-range jumper working for him.
1) Trade down to the 12 and 15 picks. 2) Draft Brewer at 12. 3) Draft Mardy Collins at 15. 4) Draft James Augustine at 32. 5) Sign Mike James 6) Sign Padgett Yao Deke Swift Hayes Howard Augustine Padgett McGrady Bogans Brewer Head James Alston Collins
