    New research article this week in Current Biology about a captive white whale who appears to have greatly changed its normal whale voice in an attempt to mimic (or communicate with, yikes) his human captors/friends/enemies.

    It is both super creepy and funny. Funny because if this is how we sound to whales, no wonder they think we are idiots. :grin:

    The whale learned to tell the divers to "get out" of its enclosure, like, "you're bothering me, get out."

    Sound waves that look pretty similar to human speech waves.
    A - human speech
    B - whale mimicry

    Whales usually use their nasal cavity to make sounds, but this one is trying out its vocal cords.

    Two whales were swimming in the ocean when they came upon a boat sailing along. One whale says to the other watch this as he goes up along side the boat he starts blowing with his blow hole and the boat starts swaying the opposite way. the other whale says let me try and he does the same with the same results. All of a sudden the first whale says I have a great idea you go on one side and I'll take the other and we'll see what happens. so they go on opposite sides of the boat blowing with their blowhole alternating making the boat sway back and forth till finally the boat tips over throwing all the sailors into the water. so the second whale says to his friend I have another good idea lets go eat them. The first whale responds listen that was *****ing fun but I draw the line at swallowing seamen.
