Check it out. While everybody is raggin on Jay Williams and how he is a complete bust in the NBA right now lets take a few steps back at a few players we all thought would be good in Houston.Roderick Rhodes. He was a star at U.S.C. and had a slashing style to his game thought to be a Mitch Richmond of some sorts but never fit in with what Houston was doing at the time.Kelvin Cato is another one.He is way to over paid and why, because he had a monster preseason game,A PRESEASON GAME YA'LL.Do I have to break out the stat line on this game.26 points,22 rebounds and 12 blocks. I remember it like it was yestarday.Right then and there we all thought that this was the one who would take Houston to the promised land of that which is called the NBA FINALS.Hey I thought that myself. Now look where it has gotten us.I will bowrrow from a rapper a title from one of his underground cd's.but will change the name of it.4 Years And $42 Million Dollars Later .Cato has proven what has been the norm in the NBA these days. You get a fat contract and you feel that you are set and have no need to worry. If that was the case then why did Houston go out and almost scarifice the livelyhood of the NBA and get Yao Ming? No, not because they wanted to sell tickets,he was gonna do that in the first place. But because of players like Kelvin Cato. Those players who feel that because they got it they dont have to work for it.In all fairness to Cato, the Rockets brought in a player who hasent seen the game played like this and hasent been accustom to what NBA players go through, but that should tell you something right there.Your only as good as your last game. And if Cato wants to last through another season he better get his sellf together and understand that Houston didnt waste that money and make an attenpt to become at least a good back up to "The Dynasty".Because at the rate Houston is going Cato wont be around to see the bubbly pop open when Houston is again hoisting up the Lawrence O' Brian trophy in that new downtown arena.Had Houston not signed Kelvin Cato to that big contract would I be writting this story, would they have gotten that new arena,or would they have drafted Yao,traded for Steve Francis or be searching for a new coach?I guess we'll never know. All I can say is thanks Kelvin Cato, you did give Houston something to cheer about even though they dont know it.
Ouch. How about some paragraphs man? I think Cato improved and played well off the bench this last season, and when we get Van Gundy in here I think he can help Cato improve even more. VG is known for being a great teacher of big men and I'm curious to see how Ming, Cato, Griffin turn out after a year under his teachings.
That was really hard to follow. What does a bunch of stuff about Cato, who we got as a part in a forced trade of Snottie Quitten, have to do with whether or not Jay Williams, the Bulls #2 draft pick, is a bust? Where does RR enter into it at all?
i think cato has been great off the bench. well, defense and rebounding wise. offense, he's off... but, with the money he's being payed, i expect him to earn every cent of it. i feel the rocs are getting ripped off with him. but i like his mentality that eventhough he aint a starter, and has limited minutes, he makes his minutes count. when you move yao out of the defense rotation, nothin is gone coz cato fills up the defensive assignment of the center pretty well.. it just bugs me to see overpayed players like him dont earn every cent they are being payed for.
