Ok Im finally going to bite the bullet I think and buy one of these, and I wanted something that was inexpensive but had good HD quality. I like to watch sports and movies mainly. I came across this deal at Best Buy: 32 inch Westinghouse Seems reasonable, but Im just a brand name guy and Westinghouse reminds me of washers/dryers or something like that. Also, will this be big enough for a living room or should I get a 37 or 42'?
I say go for a 42 inch. For a living room, 32 is way too small. I have a 32 inch in my room and i think its way too small for my room.
I love the Westinghouse LCD TVs..... If you are just going to watch HD...the 720P is fine, but if you ever want to hook up a PC...1080p is better. DD
Get the 46" one! I am going to get the 50" one when it comes out this fall. 32" is a little too small, I have that.
Damn! I knew you guys were going to make me buy the bigger one. I was hoping we could get by with a 32", but our entertainment armoire is freaking huge, and it might look puny in there..... I think I'll only need a 720p
The only advice I ever actually took from Dada was about the Westinghouse and since March I've been pretty thrilled with mine. There is a crapload on them in that AV forum...almost all good, a little bad. I got the 42" 1080P, though I haven't actually seen anything in P yet, but I figured this was my TV for the foreseable future and it won't be too long before there is some P programing. (I use VOD HD for movies so I hardly ever use a DVD and don't game on it) I originally bought the 47 but it was too big from 13', the 42 still looks pretty huge at that distance. I thought my HDMI input went out and I crapped a brick because I didn't buy the Best Buy warranty which means I would have had to deal with Westinghouse and possible shipping of my TV....but first I replaced my DVR (and was ready to replace the HDMI cable) and it turned out just the free replacement from Comcast fixed the problem. CSI Miami looks like an acid trip dream on it, football is awesome. If you get it , go to the AVI forum or come back to this thread to talk about setting the advance settings. The factory settings overamp the colors to look strong in a store display, you need to tone them down , especially the backlight settings.
i saw a vizio for like 900 at sams.. but ive seen them run anywhere between $900 - $1400 depending on specs and brand.
I have this WestingHouse LCD tv. 42 inch, GREAT PICTURE. It's a 1080i, not p. But it's way good enough for me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889234005 Runs at $799 at Bestbuy now. I bought it for $1099 Their 1080P version is now at that price. WH = GREAT PC's. I bought mine from NEWEGG.COM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889234002
BTW....when you buy it online you don't have to pay for taxes. (and the 32 inch tv ur looking at is $599 on their site)
I've got the Westie 42" 1080p. I posted about it somewhere around here yesterday or the day before. Mine's a monitor, but I use the T/W HD cable box, so it doesn't matter. Caught Blade Runner in HD several weeks ago on that channel Mark Cuban owns. Awesome! I've had mine over a year, and no worries. I did get BB's extended warranty, though, which I normally never do. It was very cheap. So was the display.
Olevias are ok. Most of the ones I've seen have washed out screens compared to the name brand ones. I have a 27" Olevia in my bedroom that doesn't come close to touching the color depth of my 42" Hitachi plasma.
The bigger name brands range all over the place in price... I just got my dad one - a Samsung 40" and it was something like $1200-$1300 I believe.
