Dude chasing the triple double. So obvious he's gunning only for the mvp and triple double average. Prob saw James triple dub and gunned even harder. Pathetic
Westbrook is having one hell of a season but what gets to me is that he'll have a triple double but the amount of shots he takes is too many for some nights.
It's obvious he's trying to keep the 30-10-10 season alive at all costs, no matter how many shots he has to jack up. He's just aiming for the record books this year, no matter how much it hurts the team. Just looked at his game logs and it's even worse than I thought, this guy is the ultimate stat w****. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/westbru01/gamelog/2017
There is only one or two guys in the league that have the ability to do some elite stats stuffing. Lol it just a game between Russ and James Harden. Sure, can OKC make some noise with less stats from him? Maybe. But the season has been lost either way.
If he can catch up to Oscar R. That should be worth equally or more than one MVP title. That is for history even if he is trying too hard out there. Harden gets the MVP, and Russell gets to be close to Robertson's record, tying it or surpass it. Rebounding is what makes him great IMO, he has the best rebounding numbers for guys below 6'6.
Not really. During Robertson's time the people weren't as stats savvy, so you look at what he did and go "oh **** son". Nowadays the times are different, it's easier to compile stats due to the faster pace NBA teams do now and most intelligent people aren't wowed by boxscore stats without efficiency, despite how ESPN tries to spin for the views. Just look at James Harden increasing his assists from 7 to 11 just by switching from SG to PG, being a pg inflates your stats and whats happening to Westbrick in addition to intentionally padding his stats by shooting more than 50% of the entire team's attempts. We've had so many journalists list down who they think should be the MVP and honestly I've never read of one defending Westbrick as the MVP. Everyone's smarter now, all you have to do is point out the stupid FG% WB has and people just shut up about his MVP chances. Westbrick has been flirting with a trip double average for the last couple of years now. Nobody brings it up because everyone knows he's just stat padding.
The picture might be clearer if his team would be way below 0.500 but the fact that they are stilll within playoff race makes it commendable. This is just cherry picking. If you think he is worse than Harden, that might be your opinion. His dilemma has always been efficiency from the get go, every guy in the NBA has a weakness. I don't mind people like Kobe and Russ. People did not like Kobe for various other reasons than being a ballhog. Those guys seem to be selfish but it is the ego that drives them. Without the ego they will be half the player that they are now. I doubt that Harden is wired that way, he loves playing ball but I think what drives him are not stats but he thinks stats are necessary in this league. If you really think those stats are easy to achieve, nobody has done it other than Oscar Robertson. Averaging a triple double and having 35+ triple doubles in one season. Who has done it since Oscar, the Big O? Nobody has the willpower and athleticism to do it. It is between Harden and WB.
They don't play faster now, 60s games had great pace. Those games remind me of NFL a little bit, quick attacks, and then people waste a lot of time in stoppages, rest up. People nowadays play slower, more sophisticated game, and they get tired faster too, need more substituting, because there's less time wasting. On the other hand, they have the 3pt line now, but overall, 60s saw some crazy individual numbers for a reason. I'm not quite sure what you mean about stats savvy. If you mean that they didn't have advanced stats in the 60s, sure. If you mean there was less stats chasing, I'd have to disagree. Some of the biggest stats whores played in the 60s.
Might want do to some research before making such statements, pace was much higher in the 60s and it's not even close. Westbrook's triple double would be far more harder to accomplish with today's pace and quality. http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats.html
Harden is a stat chaser too, so both are equally pathetic. Both care more for their stats than wins. Harden will be known down the line as another "what if (he only)..." just like T-Mac and other stars who didn't care enough about the game to do whatever it takes to win. Westbrook might win some day, but he needs the right situation. Harden has the talent, just not interested enough in defense.
Players these days are aware of their stats. They are all stat chasers in one way or another. Don't pretend like Westbrick is the only stat chaser I have seen several games this season where Harden would be on like 8 or 9 assists and have a pretty open lane but swings it to the wing hoping to add another assist. I have also seen star players like Lebron refuse to take shots from just around half court or further in when the buzzer is about to sound off as that affects their FG%
The first stat padder that came to my mind was ZBo Randolph. He rebounded his own misses and redeemed himself late with his Memphis tenure.
Y'alls BOY, Bob Sura used to throw rebounds off the opponents glass in a full-court inbounds situation to get triple doubles, and y'all wanted him to win MVP too.
