Earlier in the year, my sister-in-law's SUV was broken into in the parking lot there. It's just a typical, dying mall.

West Oaks Mall up for sale

West Oaks Mall is heading for the auction block a year after its owner filed bankruptcy.

The property is being offered to qualified bidders under the terms of a reorganization plan confirmed by the federal bankruptcy court in Richmond, Va.

The mall, located at the corner of Westheimer and Texas 6, has more than one million square feet of retail space and is anchored by Sears, Macy's and Dillards.

One of the bidders will be selected as a "stalking horse," meaning all future bidders would have to offer a richer price.

Prospective bidders are required to sign a confidentiality agreement, submit a purchase contract by October 10 with a $250,000 deposit, and commit to close the deal by December 15, according to Cushman & Wakefield of Texas, which is representing the bankruptcy trustee, Joseph Luzinski.

If there's more than one qualified bidder, the trustee may conduct an auction on October 27 in Dallas.

I've always hated that mall, very small, and, as a result, no shops.

I used to go out there for the FootAction. That was a good shoe store.

I used to go there a lot. They hired the same firm that did the memorial city mall renovation to give the place a face lift but I guess that hasn't really helped.

That was probably the biggest problem though. Memorial become nice enough to warrant the extra 15 minute drive.

Did westoaks have a Rockets shop at one point?

You must be thinking of Westwood Mall, which closed down years ago because it was killed by First Colony Mall. First Colony and Sharpstown put the squeeze on Westwood. Before First Colony, Westwood was thought to be a classier mall and it attracted people from Sugarland and other parts of Ft Bend.

I think First Colony killed off West Oaks too. The huge development around the US59/Hwy6 intersection is sucking a lot of money away from other retail areas. It's so congested I hate going there on the weekends.

No, that was Memorial City Mall that had the Rockets shop. Memorial City is a great place now. Lots of renovations done over the years.

The HCC campus used to be a Lowes and an AMC theater (maybe a few other buildings).

That's what I figured. Hopefully the Alamo Drafthouse stays open. Pretty much the only reason I visit West Oaks nowadays.

They renovated it but I guess it still couldn't survive.

I shop at the Galleria and Memorial City Mall.
