Now that McGrady has gone to Detroit, the irony is clear. We had a chance of trading TMac to Detroit while he was still believed to be a superstar. The deal didn't work out. But would we have been better off?

    Billups + Hamilton

    or

    Martin + Hill + #1 protected NY pick in 2011 + top 6 protected NY pick in 2012 + Jeffries - Landry

Those picks could potentially be huge. Detroit trade is slightly better just counting the players...

I'm happy the way it turned out. I like Martin and I think our future is bright with those picks.

It really depends on what those picks pan out to be and if jeffries is flipped elsewhere

otherwise this would/could have been our lineup two years ago

Billups/Lowry (assuming that the Rafer trade still happens)
    Hamilton/Brooks/Wafer/Barry
    Artest/Battier
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Mutombo/Hayes

I dont know about you guys but we have that lineup going into the playoffs in 2009 and we may have a shot to win it all (barring the Yao and Deke injury)

In the end its about winning championships I would rather win it all for one year and then live through 2-3 years of crap (like the heat did) than consistently be close to one but never really be a legit contender

Hell yeah I'd take Chauncey. He made Denver a contender.

It was never Billups and Hamilton.

It was the same deal Denver got.

Given 2010 20/20 hindsight? I would've NOT taken that deal. Because we weren't ever truly contenders any years after the deal.

    Given 2008 20/20 hindsight? I would've taken that deal. Chauncey + 2008 Rockets team w/o Yao's injuries could've gone all the way.

where's the Mac for Iggy/Dalember choice?
if that happens and the Suns didn't reject Amare's physical, we could have this line-up last season:

    Dalember, Hayes, Anderson
    Stoudmire, Landry
    Ariza, Budinger
    Igudala, Taylor
    Brooks, Lowry

I think we could beat the Lakers and Celtics w/ that line-up last season. add Yao to that and we have a dynasty.

Hey, Billups would have been a huge upgrade over the corpse of T-Mac, even if we didn't get Hamilton.

    Billups/Lowry
    Battier/Brooks/Barry
    Artest/Wafer
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Mutumbo/Hayes

That right there would have beaten the Lakers, even with Yao out. Billups would have replaced the leadership of Yao and scoring of T-Mac.

[rant]I don't really have an opinion on your poll question at hand, but I just have to say I'm always astonished how easily people take these reported trade rumours as truth.

Not just this T-Mac for 2 of Billups/Hamilton/Prince/whoever but also the Stoudamire deal and our push for Rubio.

So, some reporter wants to get some hits and reports a leaked deal, which most likely isn't quite right, and then it starts to live its life on what if threads on messageboards. [/rant]

Tmac didn't net us Kevin Martin, Landry did.

The Iggy and Dalembert trade never happened because stupid ass Stefanski was and still is in denial that Iggy is a 1st option that will lead them to the postseason and rejected it.

It was rumored that we would send 1.3-Mac and Budinger for Iggy and Dalembert but Philly rejected it.

Also, the Amare deal never happened because Phoenix wanted to waive the physical and Morey wasn't comfortable with that, due to Amare's knee issues and the uncertainty that he would not re-sign with us.

It was a 3-way deal. TMac had to be there for it to work.

You never know. Morey is pretty slick. He could've gotten other additional assets by now even if we did trade with Detroit.

We could've been more dangerous coming into this season. LerBon could've decided not to go to Miami. Bosh could've walked to NY. and a flap from a butterfly's wings could result in a hurricane in the other side of the world.

The world may not be the same.

This poll was inspired by the fact that TMac is going to Detroit. There is merit for making a poll that lists all the rumored TMac trades. But that's for another thread.

Getting Billups and Hamilton doesn't mean 1 year of contending and just 2-3 years of crap, its 2 years of being relevant and 5 years of mediocrity, wherein we're good enough to win the playoffs but we'll lose in the first round. Even if you did the Billups trade there's no guarantee its good enough to beat the Lakers and Celtics, especially when Yao's foot will break somewhere in the first round and he'll be out starting the 2nd.

The NY trade was the better deal, both in the short and long term.

you want to look back in hindsight?

    1) we would be better off if tmac never got injured
    2) we would be better off if yao never got injured

    those 2 scenarios beats all

i think that not making the Detroit trade happen, is the biggest (and probably the only one ) Moreys mistake.
the mike james contract was a mistake too, but morey recognice take and trade him.
