Looking back at the draft, who would have stood the MIST to gain by Stroud dropping in the draft? I think the Texans were putting out the issues/problems with CJ to drive his value. I think their plan was to draft Anderson w/the #2 pick, hope CJ fall to may be 6 or 7, so they did not have to pay as much in trade. What do you think??
I think what is funny is that if the Texans had drafted Anderson #2 and then traded up to get Stroud at #3 people would be more upset, even though the outcome would've been the same, lol.
We may have had to spend more to trade up to #3 for Stroud because other teams like Tennessee wanted him. There was less competition to trade up to 3 for Anderson.
I don't think the outcome would've been the same, in terms of spent assets. By taking Stroud first, they essentially deflated the market for the #3 pick. It was still incredibly valuable to Arizona (thus, the price) - but Stroud being available at 3 drives Indianapolis, perhaps the Raiders, Titans... into the mix and affects the eventual price. They overpaid - but I'll give Caserio credit for being smart enough to take Stroud first - and quickly so they had Arizona all to themselves.
The past 30 days have been a endless string of bullshit. CJ Stroud was always the 1st/2nd best QB prospect in this draft and he wasn't going to fall out of the top 4; likely 3 as there would've been a feeding frenzy had the Texans passed on him at 2.
I don't know if we traded before or after the pick, but either way, don't read too far into my comment.
I think you’re reaching. When you’ve identified your quarterback of the future, you don’t play these kind of games. You just take him.
I think the Titans and Colts (and others) wanted the Texans to pass on CJ. So I think they put that stuff out there to try to introduce more uncertainly around those deliberations. Can’t find a credible analyst who didn’t think CJ was clearly the 2nd best QB in this draft, or would make it past picks 3 or 4.
