I'm sick of JVG. I liked him a lot when he first came to Houston, but now I'm sick of him. The Rockets play without any identity, their once vaunted defense has declined as the season has progressed, and they too often don't seem to play hard. And oh - their O is often grotesque. But really... doesn't almost every rabid fan of every team dislike their coach? Looking at my favorite teams: Rockets - sick of JVG. Astros - always despised Jimy Williams Texans - Capers is ok, though too conservative. Manchester United - Fergie was once great, but now finished. Texas football - Mack Brown can't coach. Texas basketball - Rick Barnes ****ing rules. BC basketball - Al Skinner is a terrible tactician. BC football - Tom O'Brien is ok. That means I like precisely one manager of my favorite teams. I'm indifferent to two others. And a lot of people I know who also follow BC football can't stand O'Brien. So, is it just in most fans nature to hate their coach?
nah, i think it's mostly just jvg. unless you happen to be one of the many that eat out of his hands every time he has a quote in the paper that makes him sound really tough and like he's getting on the players.
Rockets-mixed Longhorns-yes Texans-no Packers-no Longhorns Basketball-no Astros-no Longhorns Baseball-no So, I disagree with your premise. I'm sick of JVG talking **** to the media about his team. Nothing good can come out of that when you're dealing with today's players. Not that extreme coddling of them is any better, but the excessive **** he's talked about his team this year has been disgusting.
You still like Jimy Williams ! I thought just about everyone had converted to my point of view about that ridiculously stupid buffoon.
Did you ever watch that episode of "The Apprentice" where that lame chick Tammy gets ousted for being disloyal? That's what I think of JVG. He regularly undermines his players in public, and when you're dealing with certain types of players, that doesn't work. No way can Francis and JVG co-exist. Between those two, Francis gets the boot. But I wonder whether Yao and JVG can co-exist. If one of them goes, it's JVG. So I wonder if it makes the most sense to cast off JVG and bring in a coach that can work with both Francis and Yao. JVG's style works with a team like the Jazz. It doesn't work with the Rockets with this personnel, and I don't see it working with a Rockets team that involves Yao.
When you don't have any good passers other than maybe Yao (who can't handle the ball at all), then it really limits what you can do offensively.
I've said it before. JVG's biggest contribution is exposing Francis' weaknesses. When Steve is traded in the offseason, JVG's mission is accomplished. We can bring back Rudy for title runs with Yao and whoever we get back for Francis.
