They finished the Golden State game strong, though they should have played hard the entire game. Anyway, no more excuses, the Rockets better win the next 2 games. Period. No if, ands, or buts. The Clippers have lost 11 straight, the Rockets should have no excuse for not going in there and jumping on them. Then they have Denver at home, one of the teams behind them, they should win that game. That cuts the magic number to clinching a playoff spot to 1 game since the Nuggets would have 38 losses no matter what and the Rockets own the tie-breaker vs Portland. No more excuses, no more whining and lowering your heads, period. The Rockets have no excuses for not winning the next 2 games. The next two games basically clinch a playoff spot for them so we'll see if they really have the heart and brass cahones to make the playoffs. Chance for redemption @LA Clippers and home against the Nuggets.

    Mill,

    I think they are scared.

They don't have a leader, and they don't know how to finish strong.

They are playing their worst basketball at the worst time for us fans.

The only 2 players playing decently are Cat and JJ, the rest of the team looks lost out there.

Francis is an idiot, Yao has no energy, and the next defense that MoT plays will be his first.

exactly, how many times did Taylor leave his man (Robinson) open only to have him make every freaking shot in the 3rd anf 2nd.

well, to be honest, everyone would like to succeed in their careers, including basketball players.

but when you give most people very large guaranteed contracts, winning some sort of mythical "world championship" probably isn't such a big priority anymore. the bigger priority would be having a longer summer vacation and having opportunities to spend your millions.

only the truly self motivated try to win or succeed, even when the rewards are already given to them beforehand.

in other words, if the team misses the playoffs, expect the fans to be crying a lot more than most of the players.

the following was not intended to be a paternalistic rant about human behavior.

I agree DaDa. They get on the verge of making the playoffs and just freeze. I can't figure that out at all. Bottomline, we need a solid, productive PF. I wish the Rocks could have gotten Rahim because I think he fits in perfectly with this team. Rasheed is a good fit as well. This team needs some more offense for situations like this when the defense collapses. They have no leader, as you mentioned Da, and it's frustrating to watch. As frustrating as they played earlier this year they still played with relative structure. Now the team is just freezing up and not playing with any team play. They better get their act together and beat the Clippers. No excuse at all not to win the next 2, even with those flaws.

I disagree Rocks. Gut check time has come and gone. Utah, Denver and Portland are playing their asses off right now and Houston's choking far worse than any other team with anything to lose. Any team in this league can beat any other team in this league on any given night. They just have to want it more. Each of the three teams chasing us is proving that. And each of them wants it far worse than anyone on our team. It's last year all over again. Looking over the schedule, figuring there's no way Phoenix (with a much tougher schedule than us) could pass us, watching us choke over and over again and watching them play their hearts out, beating teams far better than themselves.

"No more excuses?" That was true a week ago. Now we've just got to face facts. We love a gutless team. I've been a Rockets fan since the 1970s and I have never, NEVER been so disappointed in them. They play dumb, yes. They play lazy, yes. But the worst thing is they flat don't care. I'm getting really close to not caring either.

I'm so disgusted with them right now that I'm inclined to agree with you, but I'm giving them one more chance. All we're asking them to do is beat the Clippers, who have lost 11 in a row, and the Nuggets, at home, and the Nuggets are fighting for the playoffs but are on the outside right now. That's it. Beat the Clippers and the Nuggets and you're probably home free, because if the Rockets beat the Clippers and Nuggets then a Rockets win after that or a Blazers loss clinches a playoff berth for the Rockets. We'll see if this team has any sack whatsoever.

I disagree, despite playing the way they have played the Rockets are STILL in complete control of their own playoff destiny. Bottomline it's not over yet and there is still time to get their house in order, giving up now would be far worse then what they have done the last few weeks. Bottomline, the Rockets have a chance the next two games to redeem themselves. You rarely get a chance to do that, so we'll see. No more excuses, they have a second chance, time to grab it.

All things being equal the goal for this team was to make the playoffs. We are in a better spot than last year at this time after the playoffs start i think the sting of how they played these last games will go away.............LETS HOPE

There better not be excuses like that. The Rockets are still in California, and the Clippers are playing like crap. Utah went to LA and beat the Clippers Sunday, then came home the next day and beat the Memphis Grizzlies. I think that right there should nip in the bud any excuses that pop up.

Here it is, Portland has a BRUTAL schedule coming up, at home against Golden State, at San Antonio Friday, at Denver Saturday, then they finish up at home against San Antonio and the Lakers. If the Rockets beat the Clippers and Nuggets and Portland loses any of those games, the Rockets clinch a playoff spot. Right now, the Rockets play the Clippers and Nuggets, if the Rockets win those two games and Portland loses at home to Golden State Wednesday or @San Antonio Friday then the Rockets officially clinch a playoff spot. Chance for the Rockets to make up for all of the crap they have put everyone through the last few weeks!

It is a shame we even have to discuss ways for them to squeek in...they should have had this thing locked up already.

    You wont like this! ;)
Francis proves he was right after all!
a] JVG is no better than Rudy T
b] Yao Ming made no difference to this team
c] I only play my 'A' Game when I am in control of what is going on, not when JVG is directing things. :p
In the upocoming offseason no team wants to Trade for Francis so CD Trades Yao Ming to Cleveland and JVG becomes the new Coach of Dallas. The irony of it all is that Next season Dallas wins the NBA Championship and the season after Cleveland wins it all and their dynasty goes on to win seven in a row. :p

How can you expect this Team to have HEART. Most of them know deep down in their heart that they wont be back next season, after making a complete disaster of what could have been a decent Team.

I agree with RocksMillenium. Our destiny is controlled in our hands. Do anybody remember the preseason games? We lost the first 4 games and won the last 4, then we carry the momemtum to the regular season with a 8-3 start. If the same trend happens again, since we have lost 5 straight games, we will win the next 5 and get out of the 1st round in playoff.

Hope that Rockets can prove me I am not dreaming!

Exactly. If this were last year and we had a young team like that I would be excited about discussing this scenerio. Now I'm just disgusted and want to get this thing locked up. As disgusted as I am these players need playoff experience. Not everybody is going to be gone so they can use some experience. As far as this team's heart not being in it because some of them could be gone next year, if they had sealed the deal on this playoff berth a week ago they wouldn't have to worry about it. It would be hard to justify breaking up a 47 to 50 win team that is locked in the playoffs. Instead they're scraping by. There's still time though. Lock up the playoff berth and give a good showing in the playoffs and maybe there won't be many trades this summer. Either way I wants this team to make the playoffs. I want to actually enjoy having my favorite team in the playoffs again, it's been to long!

RM, our magic # with portland is 3, and if we win 2 and they lose 1, we clinch being ahead of them, but we don't clinch finishing ahead of denver or utah and we have to beat at least 1 on top of beating portland.

if we win these 2, we still have a magic # of 2 against utah. beat utah, our magic # will be reduced by 3 b/c of our win, their loss, and us officially having the tiebreaker then. if we beat utah even if we lose the next two we basically are going to be ahead of them.

if we win these 2 we still have a magic # of 1 against denver.

    The problem is fundamental.

Our backcourt is so fundamentally terrible that teams have adjusted to that over the season. That's why this late in the season, teams are able to limit them.

    11 assists and 16 TO's?

They didn't have Dampier and they didn't have a PG on the entire roster, why weren't Steve and Yao able to dominate?

I'm so disgusted. You guys should've seen the look on my face when I saw the score. I just wanted to throw up.
