    Synopsis: 20th century Fox sucks

Through my connection with marvel comics I got tickets to go to the Fox premier of FF4 on Liberty Island (statue of liberty). it was supposed to be exciting, getting to see the movie, boozing with the stars of the film (or star:Alba, more on this later), Get to see a free movie, there was free food, etc.

    Planned schedule:
6:30, get on boat, go to island
    7:00, BBQ, rub shoulders
9:00, watch movie outside behind statue of liberty.
11:00, fireworks, then take ferry back.

It was raining really hard today, and there were about 4 inches of water at the ferry.
    At 6:30, we waited. at
7:00 we waited n the tent, 200 people standing in a puddle. Fox says they have no backup plan for bad weather, we were still going to watch outside, stupid news company doesn't even check the weather.
    7:30, still waiting for boat.
    7:45, finally get on boat.
8:00, still on boat, havent left dock yet, technical difficulties.
    8:15, finally leave.
8:30, arrive on island, get in loooong line for bbq, about 400 people.
8:50- didn't make enough food, but there are lots of uncooked hot dogs, chicken ends up being spoiled.
9:00, people get in seats for movie.
9:30- still waiting, star(s) need to do their interviews, take their time. 10:00-still waiting, crowd getting very restless, alcohol and humid weather not not helping, at least rain stopped.
10:30- guy on loudspeaker, who sounds like he's never done it before , yaddas, then fireworks show, however, for some reason they decided to have the fireworks BEHIND the screen, so everybody gets up to move to the side to see the fireworks, which were not bad, they ended with giant '4's.

10:45- movie starts, starts slow with ben grimm and r.richards at dooms corporate headquarters, bad actor alert on mr fantastic. predictable stuff happens, Alba looks weird for some reason, makeup and hair give her mishapen head syndrome, movie goes by really fast, in ten minutes they are already on the space station and I doubt someone who doesn't know FF4 would know what the heck is going on. Acting is pretty poor, but the Thing, guy is trying his best, isn't he the dude from Identity? freaky.

11:00- movie stops. collective groan from audience heard. turns out the condensation from the storm busted the movie projector. Fox has a contingency plan, right? a spare projector, right? No, they didn't plan. Tells everyone they have to leave. 500 people leave and run to the ferries to get off that cursed island (no offense, lady liberty).

11:15-we get on the ferry, on the second floor, a window opens (from the top outside deck) and Jessica Alba wearing a low cut dress and a really tight top is leaning out and apologizing to people for the screwup, Takes some pictures with some fans. as hot as she is, I was too P'Od and not desperate enough to get up and try to take a pathetic picture of her, sorry everyone.

11:35- get back to manhattan, everyone is sweaty, tired, dying to get off the boat. But wait, they keep us in the cabin to let the stars get out first. Then all the idiots start pulling out their cameras to take pictures. Stars stop to pose. and pose, and pose. New Yorkers get restless and start booing them, a few more pictures and they finally leave, and I get off the boat, and that ends my horrible night.

you'd think such a huge company like Fox could have done a few things right on the premier of their summer 'blockbuster' movie. but no, they screwed up. From now on, I'm going to the Marvel previews (not the fox ones) which are organized much better. I know some of you would wait in the rain and humidity for 4 and a half hours to see jessica alba falling out of her top, but I already have boobies that I can call up when I need them, so its not something forbidden to me.

    The end.

From the looks of the previews you probably got off easy by only seeing 15 minutes of that trash.

The over-marketing of this movie has turned me off. Everywhere you look there is something about it.

    Nice.

You can usually tell whether or not a movie will be good from the previews. This movie is no different and will not get my money.

Wow, the last time I checked the regular folk reviews on imdb.com, there was nothing but great reviews for it.

The over-exposure has killed it for me though but, unfortunately it's a movie my wife REALLY wants to see. She is a HUGE Charmed fan and that's what the movie reminds her of (a team each with thier own individual powers) along with the villian in the movie used to be a big part of the show for a few season before he went off to do Nip/Tuck.

Oh well, hopefully there will be plenty of over-exposure of Ms. Alba as well.

Unacceptable. I have reported your post to Clutch, as failure to secure a Jessica Alba photo warrants strict punishment. For shame, nyquil82.

I'm sorry that you had to experience this and I would be pissed as well, but...

I laughed my ass off. :D :D :D . You should seriously consider writing.

Anything that could have went wrong did. Murphy at his best.

I guess it was free so they can do anything they want. Still sounds terrible with no much thought put into it. No Alba was a mistake...BIG mistake.

The dirty secret about IMDB is that interns, stuido grunts, etc. are constantly placing good reviews out on the latest movies to get people to think it's not that bad. Next time you're on, just browse the movies that are currently out in the theatres. You will hardly ever see a bad review, whereas crappy movies that are no longer in theatres will usually have bad reviews. Just a heads up, rottentomatoes usually gives you a better idea as other posters have suggested.

I've also heard that they slag movies they are competing against to sway opinion against those films. If you ever bother to read IMDB reviews, look at the person's previous reviews.

Good story.. I'm not gonna see the movie any time soon, I think your story will be better than the story behind Craptastic Four..

Hmm, interesting. Thanks to you both for the info.

I always assumed a little of that was probably going on, but I guess I thought it wasn't enough to outnumber the amount of reviews from people like us who just went and saw it at the theater.

I guess I'll start checking out RottenTomatoes more often.

Word on this movie has been that it would suck for quite a while now. Jessica Alba, while smoking hot in that skin tight costume, is all wrong for her role. Are we to believe she is old enough to have dated Ioan Gruffudd or whatever his name is back in college when he looks to be 10 years older than her? He's also not very good as Mr. Fantastic from the looks of it and I've heard the special effects for his stretching look awful. Tim Story wasn't a good choice as director. I remember hearing that the Down With Love director was attached back before filming and at the time, I wasn't too thrilled, but then after watching his movie, I thought he was the right choice.

Harry from Aint it Cool is saying the Human Torch and the Thing are great, and that might get me in for a matinee. I was sad to hear that Dr. Doom sucked and that Julian McMahon didn't do a very good job. I thought that guy would have been perfect for James Bond, but his first big film role seems to be lackluster.
