Clemens spoke at a fundraiser for Tx Childrens Hospital Cancer center last night....aside from it being a great charity event, it was cool listening to him tell stories.

Roy Firestone basically had a live "Up Close" session with him.

It was interesting to hear him talk about his love for NY and Boston and his admiration for Steinbrenner. He would occasionally give the obligatory "our owner is good too" comments. (Drayton was there and spoke some too).

He did say that Drayton made his dream come true by letting him come home. He said that Minute Maid was BY FAR the loudest stadium he has ever pitched in and he loved pitching there. He said he can't wait to pitch in the world games and that will tell him whether or not he will be able to pitch this year (no new news there).

He was asked about the whole steroid thing....and had an interesting answer. He said that he didnt have a problem with guys doing what they wanted to do to make themselves better. He said that if guys wanted to try to get better in the short term and risk having their body fall apart in the long run, then it was their decision.

He is SOOOO going to pitch this year.......

If he was going to retire, he would have just said so already.

My guess is he has an under the table deal with the Astros to come back on May 1st.

Agreed. He'll be back. There are simply WAY too many reasons to NOT retire.

I'm starting to think that the Yankees and Red Sox talk is just a smoke screen. Wouldn't MLB have a problem with a wink-wink deal?

Agreed. If he honestly had cut ties, there would be nonstop public wooing over him by no less than 6-7 teams. The man had the lowest ERA in the league last year and is a big ticket attraction.

He throws to Coby, and gears up for the run (assuming we're in it).

If he can fairly represent the USA, then he can, and will, a MLB team also.
If you are retired, then you are retired. You shut it down for ever.
But the world games will be a good test seeing he will be throwing against some of the best.

My understanding is that they can negotiate with him, but just can't officially offer him a contract. If I'm wrong on that, I'm sure Nick or somebody else will correct me.

I think Clemens will be back.
