I sent my tax return in at the beginning of March, and received my refund a week and a half ago. If I owed the gov't money, I would be waiting until the very last possible second, since I'd rather make interest on my money than let the government make interest on it.

If you have that opinion, you should adjust your withholding to keep more of your money during the year and earn on that, then hold out sending in your check at tax time, that will maximize your interest on your mondy.

I was going to mail mine in yesterday, until I just realized that my Bank screwed me on my IRA contribution last March.

Now I've got to come up with a plan by tomorrow to fix it.

I agree. My taxes this year were skewed because I paid an inordinate amount of interest on my home loan. I will be talking to my accountant this weekend and I will ask about this. Sure like getting the big fat refund check though!

If you know what you owe (or don't owe anything) file an extension. Just remember to send in the money owed with the extension form.

I don't worry about mine - I pay $150 to a family friend/CPA to worry about mine for me. Although I did worry some when the damn studet loan people didn't send me a 2002 statement until last Friday. ****ers.

My boss who is a CPA did my taxes for me, but I mailed them in instead of going on-line. As a result, I still have not gotten my refund check back yet.

Gracias for the advice. I just got back from the bank who apparently just printed the wrong information on my statement.

Thanks Bank of America for letting me waste an hour in your stupid lobby waiting for a C.R. to hear that it was a misprint.

I've done them already, just haven't filed. I'm thinking of using efile this year. Anyone done it before?

Just finished Fed a few minutes ago and decided to take a break by visiting the trusty Hangout before I start on the New Mexico forms. Adding a kid last year makes the return look better, but I'm still in the hole for about two months of sleep and a sh!tload of diapers.

I plan to do mine online tonight. What's the cheapest place to go? I can never remember the one I did online the year prior so I don't know where to go...

Where should I do them online for cheap?

    I have been using turbotax.com
I am not so sure about the price at 34.99.. but it seems very easy to use. I am sure you can find something cheaper than them.. but I highly recommend turbotax.com web edition

Woohoo. Just e-filed. I'd done my taxes earlier, but I couldn't figure out where this $160 I got from proctoring the SAT went. I've been looking all over and couldn't find out. Well, DUH, at the bottom of the form the College Board sent me it says 1099-Misc. Well after that it was a breeze.

I've read a lot of bad stuff about TurboTax this year. Not about how it does taxes, but about how it writes information to your MBR and installs spyware. So I went with TaxAct instead and I couldn't be happier. Great, easy to use program. They have a free version, but I sprung for the $10 version and it did my taxes fine. I even double-checked by using my father's TurboTax machine to make sure everything came out the same -- sure enough.

I have e0-filed for the last 4 years.

First years was with TurboTax, last 2 was web-based...easy as pie..Highly recommended and relatively cheap for Texas residents(no state tax)

return comes back quickest if you tell them to direct deposit.
