You know your town's sports teams suck when you go through one of the worst sports nights in memory, feel that sudden surge of hope for the future by thinking, 'Well, at least I can still root for the Texans.. ACK!!! Mario Williams! Well, errr, at least we have the Astros to root for... ARRRRR.. never mind.'

You know it's bad when the worst thing to happen lately is not even close to the worst thing that has happened in the last few months, and you know that the future of all three sports' professional seasons are in the toilet before they really even start.

Tell ya what though, I will be the first one to line up and kiss Battier's feet if he comes in here and helps this team to do well and go deep in the playoffs. I will gladly say I was wrong. Heck, I HOPE I am wrong. But as it is now, I feel like I have been kicked in the teeth, gut, and balls, all at the same time.

Which do you think will be longer: JVG's remaining time coaching the Rockets, or Rudy Gay's career in the NBA?

On the one hand, I feel much the same as so many of you feel - that the Rockets' brass are clueless and stupid, and that JVG screwed us all over on this one.

However, can the Rockets' brass really be that stupid? Can they?

And if they are not, can so many die-hard fans be so wrong?

You'd think Les would have learned from the reactions in this town when the Texans skipped Reggie Bush. To have a guy like Gay fall in our laps without having to trade, or having to give up ANYTHING, even keeping Luther (thus making Head fans happy), to be given such a stroke of luck, such a blessing, and then to throw it all away in a vain attempt to try to eke out a record possibly above .500 next year, and another first-round flameout, well, ... dang... there're gonna be a lot of hangovers tomorrow morning.

Plus I hate it when the people in charge of our sports teams embarass us nationally like this. Ugh, it's getting old.

I'm not necessarily defending the trade - I don't think we got full value for pick 8. However...

See draft party, 1992. Harold Miner. Robert Horry. Thousands booing. Different sport? See NFL Draft, 1998. Eagles select McNabb over Ricky Williams. Thousands booing. Die-hard fans are wrong all the time about the draft. You guys are die-hard Rockets fans, not UConn fans. I think all of you know your stuff about the guys on the Rockets. But I really doubt that many of you watched UConn last season, because I watched them upwards of 10 times and did not come away all that impressed with Rudy Gay. Incredible talent, but results didn't always happen.

You know some of your town's sports fans suck when they start making all these final proclamations about how seasons will wind up and they haven't even seen players like Rudy Gay, Mario Williams, Reggie Bush and Vince Young play a single second in the professional leagues.

First of all, the Reggie Bush/Rudy Gay comparison is ridiculous. Bush was voted the best player in the country (Heisman) by one of the largest margins in the history of the award. He was a human highlight film and had games of upwards of 500 total yards. Rudy Gay, by and large, was a disappointment who scored only 15 points per game and shied away from the ball in crucial moments for his team. Anyone who thinks Bush and Gay are even in the same stratosphere really hasn't seen Rudy Gay play.

Second, learn what? Sorry, guys like Les Alexander and Bob McNair are trying to make the best choice for the long-term health of the franchise. If they choose immediate fan reaction over what they believe is in the long-term interest of the team, I want them gone immediately.

The last two times I remember the Rockets being involved in potentially "embarassing" moves were when most of the national media figured we picked Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan by picking Yao over Jay Williams, and when the media figured we traded for a future Kevin Garnett in Eddie Griffin and gave up three mediocre players including Richard Jefferson. Tell me, did either of those drafts for us end up matching the national perception that night?

Anyone who judges a draft as an embarassment before watching the players play as much as a single second on an NBA floor isn't someone you need to be concerned with.

With all that said, if I were CD/Morey, I would not have done this trade as it's currently structured. I'm just pointing out the flaws in the argument.
