Astros to call up Castro, Johnson, and Bourgeious. Cut Sullivan, Daigle, and Cash! Best news all season so far!!!
Just heard the news, its the first time all season where I've truly been excited. There has been moments but this is the sign everyone has been waiting for from the front office!
One less guys' stats I have to pull up each day at MILB.com. (minor league baseball). I don't care if he doesn't hit for much power initially.... I'm more excited to watch his plate discipline and see how he handles the veteran pitchers he gets to work with (Oswalt and Wandy will still likely get Q... but Myers was throwing to Towles/Cash).
Both will step into starting roles! According to a team press release, the moves will take effect on Tuesday. Castro and Johnson will move into the starting lineup, according to Alyson Footer of the Astros (via Twitter). mlbtraderumors.com
I wonder what happens to Feliz? I don't think he'd be pleased with a backup role so does he get released? Shouldn't matter I know but just curious.
Good to see that Johnson will get his chance, and we get Castro some experience. Bourgeois deserved a call up with his superior play in AAA. Must be awesome to get a chance to play for his hometown team. Feel bad for Sullivan though.
The next wave begins with this guy, IMHO... @farmstros: Lyles line tonight: 7 IP, 4 H, 1 run, 0 BB, 8 Ks, 98 pitches, 2.37 ERA for season. He could be in line to start TL All-Star Game
I'm happy to see Castro and Johnson as starters immediately. Feliz can suck it up and be happy with the rest of the 4.5 mil he is getting from us this season.
Why, exactly? He should have never been on this team in the first place..... Did you feel bad for Kaz and his masseuse also?
Glad to see that the front office recognizes the reality of where the team is. Bourgeious has been killing the ball @ RR and is and ideal backup OF...can hit for power, play defense, and is freaking fast. We don't lose a season of arbitration w/ Castro and Cash was simply worthless. Johnson deserved another shot with what he's done since his early injury. As long as he can keep the errors to a minimum, he should do well.
Plus, Bourgeois is better against LHP. He should be a decent 4th outfielder and he can be a better replacement option for Bourn on days where we face tough lefties and they want to give Bourn a day off. After a very promising 2009, where Bourn had a nearly identical OPS against RHP and LHP, he has a pretty dramatic split this season (.404 against LHP but not that big of a sample size), even worse than his career split: 2009: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=bournmi01&year=2009&t=b#plato 2010: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=bournmi01&year=2010&t=b#plato Career: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?n1=bournmi01&year=Career&t=b#plato Here are Bourgeois' career splits: http://www.minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?pl=430652 He may compliment Bourn well.
Kaz Matsui got a big contract that he didn't live up to. Sullivan was an underdog, that played hard. Unfortunately for him he just doesn't have the talent. Sorry that I root for guys that make the team as a non-roster invitee.
