The Rockets game last night was a return to what made them a dangerous team last year. Defense and hustle. Even when the offense struggles, you can still rely on defense and hustle. Players were flying around tipping balls, covering the lane and showing a committment to playing hard or hustling. This team is still finding it's offensive identity, but if they continue to pay attention to playing good defense they can win while they work it out. Defense is crucial....and it was a very pleasant thing to see last night. Keep it up boys....you play D, you win... DD
I was really impressed that they held the suns to 0 points in the fast break. I know this Suns team is not as athletic and fast-gunning as the one in past years, but they are 2nd in the league in point avg, so they must have some fast breaking going on and we took that away tonight. I hope this is the beginning of something beautiful. I could care less how bad the offense looks, but if the defense looks bad that just upsets me and disappoints me .
the 4th quarter, T-mac still did sth hurt the team, I hope he always can follow what the coach tells him to do, move the ball so that our offense could be fluent... flying without wings
That's the exact point we missed last couple games,no hustle,no defense. Finally it's back to normal, good defense against the Sunz. but there's still one thing that I'm concerned about,Ron Ron's play last night really sucked and he still can't find his shooting touch and play the way he did during his time in Sactown.I must say,so far as I know,he's the most disappointing player in the red jersey. Hope he'll be a beast as he used to and own the defensive player and lock down the opposing best player night in and night out. Go Rox Go. anyway,it's still a good win
I wonder how much Spanish is this gentleman able to speak, but I can't speak at all to tell the truth. Don't those Californians speak Espanol?
Cannot agree more. While it is not like our offense is flowing really brilliantly, watching the other team miss so badly made it much easier on my nerves.
oh man i was holding my breath when yao dove to the floor for that ball... that was a body pile waiting to happen that thankfully didnt develope. But yeah, looks like that veterns only meeting helped. It shouldn't have to come down to that, but theres energy in the team now. Feels like the same effort and energy we got last year when Yao called us soft. (By us i mean me and the whole rocket nation.)
If the Rockets can continue to play defense, they will work into shape with their offense. We haven't seen them play defense like that in a while. Battier will help both on defense and offense. Let's see how they respond to the Spurs and Hornets.
I agree. Clearly the effort was not very consistent until last night. They played a full 48 for once. This should be a kick in the butt for the team to step up and play like everyone knows they can. It seemed like they were trying to coast on the loaded depth and talent.
The Suns are still an elite team in the West and one of the best scoring teams in the NBA. The Rockets did a number on them last night and its a great sign. The fact that they did it IN Pheonix makes it all the more impressive.
Since Marion left, the Suns have not been the same. They appear to be in decline much like the Mavs and the Spurs. Where is Marion? He didn't play for the Heat the other night.
Both Dallas and Phoenix did us a favor by panicking and taking on Kidd and Shaq...... Basically ending their chances as title contenders. DD
I'm sorry, but I respectuflly disagree. The hustle has always been there. The Suns missed layups and open looks all night. There were less missed assignments/switches, but the game was the same. The Lakers couldn't miss during the crucial stretch in the 4th, the Suns did almost all night. Offensively, it looked only very slightly different, which I believe you are hinting towards. Things look better when shots drop. Which, they only did for Rafer, Brooks, and McGrady. They made all their buckets on iso play pretty much. Of course, I love the win. I take them anyway we can get them. Of our "big 3". I'm very happy McGrady was ULTRA-efficient until he started jacking up shots towards the end. Yao looked better, but was still short of his normal level. Artest was really off. At the very least, it should help some fans chill a little and see that the sky is not falling, but we both agree...much work and improvement to be done.
Hustle was not always there and the team quit in the Lakers game in the 4th quarter. The transition defense (which is all about hustle) has been awful this year. This was a game where it looked like they were not worried about chemistry....just playing the game. DD
You know, I can agree with you there. 4th quarter once the Lakers had that one run where it was just ugly for us, that was game. Before that, they were running down shooters. And yeah, transition D was MUCH better this time. It definitely felt more like just going out and playing. I think the Suns played very careless and we played less careless. During the Laker game it seemed like we were so sloppy and lazy with passes. Their D really forced some bad passes.
