So i'm flipping through the channels then I see the Empire Strikes Back, only one of my favorite all time movies, on flippin MTV?! I guess they're running some sort of marathon. Stars Wars on MTV? MTV isn't worthy.
All the cool kids are out drinking and partying, while the nerdy kids at home watching television. Might as well attract them.
The marathon was on spike tv a couple of months ago. Maybe we'll see starwars in the lifetime network soon. Grr. no how i met your mother reruns today. Why does MTV still keep the "M"?
No kidding. One of Refgal's kids mentioned something random that was on MTV a couple of days ago and asked what that had to do with music. I wisely stated that MTV hadn't had anything really to do with music since I was in college.
You noticed that too - I wrote a blog about it a couple of years ago. http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=5570558&blogId=270495039
Just about the time you (and I) left their target demographic. MTV, and pop music as a whole, has only existed to get cash from youngsters. I won't fault them for not wanting to be 24-hour versions of Friday Night Videos and Pump It Up!
If it werent for the boy band, bubble gum pop late 90's era, MTV woulda gone away from videos even faster. Video stations and shows used established acts to w**** themselves out in music videos, with serious musicians like Bruce Springsteen dancing around on stage all femmie like Michael Jackson for the quick viewer consumption. Then low talent all-image acts took over and watered music down even more. Then other things like 24 hour cartoon networks came about. And once MTV starting airing shows about young people getting laid, that appealled to the young viewers senses even more than the videos. Videos did turn into a good artform but the all day novelty of it was just gonna wear off. That still doesnt explain Star Wars, though
No doubt, it was a little weird seeing it on MTV. But (of course) I watched I, IV, and VI. First time I've watched MTV since Jackass... EDIT: They were doing little interludes during the commercial breaks with behind the scened footage etc. One of them was Master P interviewing George Lucas. It made me want to snip my nads off using a pair of plastic scissors.
it just seemed to me that they were begging for folks to watch their awards show, i used to love their awards shows but now they just suck, mtv as a whole is full of suck, loved getting in some of the marathon though, mtv is just the brand now kinda like auto insurance dicounters who now offer home and life insurance,
What? Why would you want to do something like that? Master P, George Lucas, that just sound like good TV. Did he reveal that his famous 'uhhhhhh!' was really just a bad impersonation of chewbacca?
