I just had my tonsils taken out yesterday and it's been pretty rough. Anyway, after talking to a bunch of people about my tonsils, I was surprised at how many people that I know have tonsillolith . I started to get them about eight years ago and they are pretty nasty. My brother gets them and picks them out with a paper clips I found out tonight. One of the guys that I work with gets them too. I was just curious how prevalent they are.
There is a whole thread on Clutchfans already. Thats how prevalent... I thought taking out tonsils only for tonsil stones was bad judgment by the doctor.
That's not why he took them out. It's just one of the stranger symptoms that I was having. They were contributing to obstructive sleep apnea and I have had chronic tonsillitis for many years.
i would poop my pants if I had something like that growing in my mouth. man i am 29 years old and have never met anyone who has had these
It's funny the first time that I had one, it looked kind of like that picture. My tonsils were really swollen, inflamed, painful, and itchy. I thought that it was like a pimple something back there, so I squeezed it and about three of those things come out. It scared the hell out of me, but I got used to them over time.
Those are dangerous stink bombs......but for some reason you just have to sniff it after it comes out
Yep, the squeeze, sniff, and quick wash of the hands. Nasty! PS. sorry about a topic repost. Is the search function disabled?
You know, this is going to sound gross, but here it goes. Every now and then, I sneeze, and then I feel like a booger got stuck in my mouth. When this happens I always cough to get it out. Funny thing is, these "boogers" are always white and smelly. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE!
yeah it sucks. i was tryin to find out what it was too. dentist said it can be avoided by the obvious but also what alot of people dont do is gargle with peroxide. told me we are supposed to gargle with peroxide once a week. i have this mouthwash that ive been using that has peroxide in it and its awesome.
I had my tonsils taken out last year. I dunno if I had this condition though I know what you going through In Week 3 of my recovery . .. i broke me stitches [I don't know how. . .wasn't eating anything] Drove myself to the hospital [stupid stupid stupid] and Nearly died [maybe . . felt like it .. i lost so much blood . .. hate SW MEMORIAL ] BE CAREFUL! Rocket River
I don't think that I have stitches. They cauterized everything and they said that after a week or so the scabs will come off. They said that I need to watch for bleeding when that happens. I don't want to go through what you did though. That sounds really scary. Luckily I'm in Austin and only about 5 minutes away from the closest ER. I don't want to start a new thread or anything, but is the search function disabled?
firecat, I had a UPPP a few years ago and they did the same thing to my area. When the scabs came off, blood start literally gushing from the back of my throat and it was thick too. My doctor told me to go straight to the emergency room if anything like that happened so we went and the doctor told me that is what happened. Scared the crap out of me at first and it was bleeding pretty bad for a while but then it finally subsided about 10 minutes after we were at the hospital.
You know, around the time the last thread about tonsil stones were started, I had them. Now, not so much anymore. In fact, not for a good 5-6 months I'd say. This board has healed me!
I just started getting tonsil stones a year ago. No biggie - just do a weekly squeeze to get all the stones out and continue on my way. The first time scared the hell out of me though! I had a sore throat for 3-4 days and finally thought I'd dig around with my finger - man what a surprise when 20 or so stones came out including 2 pretty good sized ones. All my stones are on my left tonsil, none on the right. (also, as a side note - i've been drinking a lot more water than usual over the past week and haven't found a single stone since)
The biggest tonsil stone I've ever seen: Note: it's gross. Spoiler http://scielo.isciii.es/scielo.php?pid=S1698-44472005000300008&script=sci_arttext&tlng=en
That is what happened to me I think . .. rather than the stitches except . .. it did not stop. . . . I was sitting in the d*mn ER . . .for a while [lost track of time . . literally throwing up blood] then they told me they did not have a Doc who could reseal it there and I had to goto a different hospital [Waited hours] I tried to drive myself. . but blood loss had my equalibrium off and I fell after 3 steps Rocket River . . it was not a good night for The River
