About two weeks ago, I was in downtown Boston, and I saw a plane fly incredibly abnormally low. Boston only has two real skyscrapers: the Hancock and Prudential buildings. They're pretty close together, and the plane threw right between them - perhaps about 2/3 of the way up the buildings. Needless to say, everyone around me (and me, too) flinched, thinking that there was about to be a huge explosion. It really looked like the plane was going to collide with the Prudential. It didn't, and those poor sods who threw themselves to the ground (and there were quite a few of them) picked themselves up, glanced around, and went about their business. It was pretty immediately apparent that everything was ok. But the situation was still pretty weird, so I've asked everyone I can think of who might know why a plane would behave that way... so far, I haven't got any good answers. So I figured I'd throw the quesiton out for you guys: why would the plane have flown so low between two close skyscrapers? I'm in downtown Boston a great deal and I've never seen anything like it. Judging from the reaction of those around me, neither had anyone else. Any ideas?
Why don't you ask the Logan Airport Authority? Failing that, ask one of the local news organizations to look into it.
RR: Ah, I actually did email massport about it. They just responded by saying they didn't have any reports of anything unusual, and that heighth perception could be difficult, especially on cloudy days... blah blah blah. Still, it wasn't my imagination watching people throw themselves on the ground. And Boston's pretty cloudy all winter... and I've never seen anything like that. Guess it could have been an optical illusion, like they seemed to infer...
perhaps some type of agency was performing some kind of test. or something. that's as logical an explanation as I can think of.
I was at the Airport a few weeks back and saw a 737 about to land, then at the last second it just took off again... To see that up close is pretty amazing
Touch and gos kick arse. If you and some buddies want to check some cool stuff, go to a nearby airfoce base and check out some touch and goes. Like FD said, truly amazing.
What, the sky marshals or the UFO? If it was an attempted suicide mission, then he either chickened out or the sky marshals got him, and it would have made the news. The pilots probably had a little lapse in situational awareness. Or it was an optical illusion...
