I just accidentally altered my color settings by clicking that little monitor icon on the systray.

Now all my icons look different- less colorful, and I can't figure out how to restore my default settings. Can anyone help?

I'm running Windows 98, by the way.

I would recommend getting a new computer.

    ZRB...

right click on the empty desktop...choose "properties"

when the Display Properties window opens....go to the tab marked "Settings"

look for the dropdown box labeled "colors"

it will probably be at 16 or 256 colors....click on it and choose "High Color (16 bit)" or "True Color (32 bit)"

and quit clicking on stuff that you dont know how to fix....;) :p

Thanks for your help, but the problem fixed itself on its own.

I just had the same problem on my POS 4 year old Compaq that I run on Windows 98, except my only choices were 2 colors and 16 colors.

I had to go download the entire video driver from compaq(hp).com
that allowed me to choose between 256, high and True color.

regardless, my screen looked lke an Apple IIc for a minute there.
