Lately, when I surf the net for more than 10 minutes or so, website graphics start having a hard time loading. Restarting the computer will help temporarily, but then it happens again. I just powered down my DSL modem for about 5 minutes and restarted it. Hopefully this will help. Anyone else experienced this? I leave my DSL modem on all the time. Should I periodically power it off to reset connections, etc.?
Get cable. Sounds like a problem with your modem if turning it off/on temporarily solves the issue. I'd go swap it out with a new one and see if that solves your problem.
when you say 'hard time loading', what do you mean exactly? like it's just slow, or it completely stops loading?
at&t u-Verse here. I have the same snafus, but I have the U-verse thingie, so i don't know if it may be related or the same with the DSL thing. What area of town? I am in Katy, and every now and then it takes about 3 to 4 seconds to load a site... but that's not happening today at all. It goes and comes throughout the weekdays.
I talked to AT&T tech support. They ran tests and everything is fine on their end. Then they asked if my Win XP was up to date with patches, etc., and I remembered that my system crashed about 6 months ago. I reinstalled XP from scratch and forgot to turn automatic updates back on....DOH!! So I just finished downloading and installing the 63 updates my system was lacking. Trying to decide if I should install XP Service Pack 2 so I can go to IE7. Thoughts?
I have U-Verse as well. The current drawback with U-Verse is the amount of incoming streams you can have. You can only have 4 TV's at once playing. That includes if you are recording something on the DVR. If you have all the TV streams going it does slow down the internet. AT&T is going to add more strams at the first of the year and that should resolve the problem.
Comcast as far as the cable goes sucks ass. U-Verse is fiber optic and it blows the cable reception away.
I don't use IE7, but SP2 is miles better than not upgrading. Firefox... After the patching, I'd run some adware scanners just in case those website graphics have trojans in them...
I've never had a problem with Comcast blocking my torrents. Are there some particular sites you guys are talking about? I dl torrents almost daily.
That is so weird... ... as soon as I checked this thread this morning for possible solutions to a slow Internet download speed, I came back and did a speed test... after the speed test (speakeasy.net/speedreports/), EVERYTHING was faster. So effin' weird. It's back to normally fast now. Ill-Skillz, you mean to say I can't be on the PC getting fast interwebs if my girls are recording High School Musical on Disney?!?!?
I've been having a problem with my at&t dsl for months now where like early early in the morning, like 3 am or so, I can't access the internet until like after 9 am. Everything looks ok, the modem lights are all on, but for whatever reason, I can't get a page to load. I've called about it and the last time I called, the tech guy said he found the problem and that it would be fixed. That lasted only like 2 weeks.
