What are you looking for? Just to learn about weight training or an actual weekly work out?

I would say it depends on the level and teacher. I took what was basically weight training 101 and I definitely didnt get a good work out from it. Not enough time, equipment, and too many students. The priority is just teaching basic exercises. As for how much you'll learn, it depends greatly on the teacher. If you can pick it up as an elective, then you've got nothing to lose.

They offer this as an elective??? Where? I know at U of H they have personal trainers that you can hire for a reasonable amount. They also offer free courses on specific things like weight training. I'd look into one of those two options. You don't really need a semester's worth of education in training. You could probably get it down in a few sessions.

Mine was not an elective, but i know you can take it as an elective, if you're within the same department/area. I don't think a business major would have that option, for example.

I also took the TIGER study class, which was pretty good as a work out class. 40 mins of cardio 3 times a week. I believe it ended already though.

Yeah that makes sense. I was never friends with anyone majoring in "Sports Nutrition" or "Sports Management" so I never really considered that. There really are too many nonsense degrees available. My coursework also had a lot of BS that I will never use but at least required reading and argumentation.

Currently taking one here at UT. I'm allowed to do whatever exercises I want when I'm there, and the TA's that teach the course really don't do anything. I'm just taking it since I go to the gym anyways and thought might as well get an A on my transcript for it.

yeah i would want to be able to have a somewhat extensive workout on a regular weekly basis. i know enough about working out to be by myself but i've just been lazy and have no time lately. I was hoping this course could give me the incentive to work out more

    Where would you take it?

I guess it's just different from college to college. When i took it at UH, we used the athletic department's old weight room, which was pretty crappy and limited. It would be fine for a few people at a time, but you can't work out with 15-20 people. Plus, the TA wanted us to do specific things every class, so it wasn't "free time" either, so again, depends on the teacher too.

Maybe, maybe not. Our rec center is across campus from the sports performance department/school, so maybe it were closer we could have had class there. You're going to have to ask around and find out what they do at SJ specifically.

Yes, for career credits only. No it doesn't work, take anatomy class and see how the body really works.

Just make sure you sign up for Weight Training and not Wait Training. One of my friends made that mistake and she spent the term learning all about how sex before marriage is wrong and about how it can wait.

They are a waste of time. I guess they force you to go to the gym.
