Only 5 hours away and it will be Wednesday! No I havn't gone crazy, I was just wondering what decision did Richard Lewis make?
Richard Lewis? He's still not drinking, not doing drugs, wearing black, and hanging out with Larry David. Methinks you means Rashard Lewis
I just read some late breaking news from another NBA message board from a Seattle native: http://boards.espn.go.com/cgi/nba/request.dll?MESSAGE&room=nba_sea&id=157206
THANK YOU THANK YOU {HELL} YES THANK YOU......BEST DAMM NEWS ALL WEEK LONG See it was all money for Lewis ...Just the kind of player the Rocks DONT ****ING NEED.......
How reliable is that source though? It wouldn't be the first time that a local TV sportscaster has been wrong.
You can call the Sports Director yourself and see what the scoop is: Hold on let me get the number. Okay, here is the link: (Let us know what you find out!) http://www.king5.com/about/contactus-tv.html
I sent them an email asking that they confirm or deny that it was reported by their station. If they deny reporting it then we know it is a hoax.
try this one: http://www.sonicscentral.com/forum/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=981 Lewis Signs Seven-Year Contract http://www.sonicscentral.com Free Agent Forward Will Reportedly Make $64 Million By Kevin Pelton, SonicsCentral.com Staff Reporter Faced with a Wednesday deadline to decide on the Sonics' offer, forward Rashard Lewis, left, decided to stay in Seattle for the next seven years. Seattle-area television station King 5 is reporting on their Tuesday broadcasts that the Seattle SuperSonics have reached an agreement with free agent forward Rashard Lewis. No official terms were announced, but sportscaster Paul Silvi quoted the $64 million figure (over seven years) that was first reported as the Sonics’ new offer by unofficial Mavericks website DallasBasketball.com on Sunday. The new deal for Lewis just beat the Wednesday deadline the Sonics had reportedly set for him to accept their offer or they would revoke it, forcing him to sign with the Dallas Mavericks for three years and $15 million. Faced with the knowledge that he would not be able to get a better offer from the Sonics, Lewis accepted a deal only slightly higher than the $60 million the Sonics first offered. After that first offer came in lower than expected, the Sonics and Lewis engaged in testy negotiations. Lewis visited the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, with the Mavericks emerging as the most likely alternative for his services because of the city’s proximity to Lewis’ native Houston and Dallas’ loaded roster. The Sonics, meanwhile, brought to Seattle free agent forwards Popeye Jones, Lee Nailon, and Walt Williams as potential replacements for Lewis. Tiring of waiting for Lewis to make a decision and with training camp looming, the Sonics reportedly set Wednesday as the deadline for the Sonics to accept their offer. Lewis, who was the Sonics’ second-leading scorer at 16.8 points per game and leading rebounder with an average of 7.0 rebounds per game, re-signed with Seattle for two years and a third team option year two summers ago. At the time, he turned down a more lucrative long-term offer from the Toronto Raptors with the expectation that the Sonics would reward him for his loyalty this summer, now that they own his “Larry Bird” rights and can exceed the salary cap to sign him. During last season, Lewis announced in an interview with Frank Hughes of the Tacoma News-Tribune that he would opt out of his contract this summer and planned to seek the maximum allowable contract, approximately $96 million over seven years. The Sonics’ offer never approached that level, though there remains some disagreement on what their final offer is. While the $64 million figure has been widely reported, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer indicated today that the Sonics had not increased their initial offer. In addition, the Sonics have reportedly offered Lewis $15 million worth of incentives in his new contract, though there is also disagreement on what Lewis has to do to earn his bonuses. Local media has reported that the bonuses are primarily based on All-Star appearances, while DB.com reported that Lewis could reach his incentives based on team performance and rebounding.
Well he has a good agent and he's very smart, he got the big money he deserves. Thankfully these Rashard Lewis rumors will die now.
It was definitely reported by the TV station, but I too am not sure how reliable it is. That site quoted earlier changed its frontpage article to something less definitive: Mixed Reports on Lewis Free Agent Forward is in Seattle, but Will He Sign? By Kevin Pelton, SonicsCentral.com Staff Reporter Free agent forward Rashard Lewis, left, is nearing a final decision on whether to accept the Sonics' seven-year deal. Septmber 18, 2002 This much is certain. Free agent forward Rashard Lewis is in Seattle to meet with SuperSonics management and his agent, Carl Poston, will arrive today for what should be the final days -- if not day -- of negotiations between Lewis and the Sonics. In all likelihood, a decision will be made by the end of the week. Yesterday evening, however, it looked like that decision had already been made. Seattle-area television station King 5 TV reported on its broadcasts at 5:00, 6:30, and 11:00 that Lewis had agreed to a deal that would be announced at a press conference today. No other source confirmed the story, with other TV stations and newspapers indicating that while a deal might come as early as today, nothing was yet official. There is also a discrepancy between various sources on what the Sonics are offering now. An unofficial Mavericks website, DallasBasketball.com, reported last Sunday that the Sonics’ current offer was $64 million. This figure was repeated as unofficial by King 5’s Sports Director, Paul Silvi. Other local media has reported that the Sonics have not upped their offer from its initial value, $60 million over seven years. (Everything else after this was unchanged.)
Yes, it is true. there is a news conference scheduled for 10am on Wednesday to make the official announcement. Elizabeth Berman Assignment Editor KING 5 TV That comes from an email I received late last night from KING TV in Seattle. Did this 10am press conference ever happen? I can find no news of this anywhere.
Well Wednesday came and is now gone! Lewis is going where? I think only he knows this and upto now, it looks like the Sonics are unable to push him, into meeting their deadline. The only reason we should be interested in him is because he would be the eventual replacement for Rice. (Nachbar and Lewis). A powerful statement at the Small Forward position.
Refman, good work on getting the scoop from Seattle. I think King TV jumped the gun by announcing the Rashard Lewis news a few days early. But this 10AM press conference is very sketchy because obviously that time has come & gone so I have no clue why this station keeps throwing around facts that don't exactly come to fruition. Not that I really care, but it is entertaining for now!
We should take up a collection to pay Rashard $70 million to sign already so we could get the BBS back.
It could very well mean that they came to an agreement in principle and are just working out the specifics before they announce anything....like we did with Francis
Thanks for the link earlier. I just sent an email. There is probably a lot of chatter from people inside the Sonics organization...chatter which often contradicts the truth.
According to Sonics management, if Lewis isn't signed by tomorrow (the GM said end of the week) that they would pull the deal off the table and use the money to sign free agents.
