The way that I see it, is that Webber is starting to run out of options and he will have no other option but to stay in Sacramento. Webber is not worth giving up everything to get him, for many teams. The only good teams that Webber would really like and have a chance of winning, are the Rockets,Orlando and Indiana. But NONE of them would like to give up so much, just to get Webber for the price he is asking for. The only way I see him going to these teams is if he takes less money.(Yeah right) The player that is screwing things up for Webber is Antonio Davis, he is capable of doing many of the same things for these teams and for less money. The Rockets,Orlando and Indiana do not really have to have Webber to be successful in the future, Webber needs them for him to be successful in the future. The Rockets, Orlando and Indiana will be on top with time anyways, Webber just can make the process happen faster or even may screw things up for some teams, (chemistry and less depth). Depth is very important, we saw how last year the Rockets would win a majority of there games due to the great depth that we had off our bench(Moochie,Bullard,Los).(Point production players) So losing the depth that all these teams are trying to maintain/keep is not worth Webber. A Davis and Marc Jackson have become very respectable solutions to this Webber saga. The way I see it is that Webber's stock is falling, and at the same time Webber is increasing the stocks of A.Davis, Marc Jackson and other power forwards and centers in this league. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. i agree completely. webbers criteria was money/chance at ring. the only place he can get both is in sacramento. esp in light of the recent bibby deal.. and perhaps spree for peja? (that would surely seal it) however, teams that are on the brink of contending, if they sign/trade for webber, they'll be no better if not worse than before. thats why it behooves teams to go after marc jackson and ADavis kind of guys to fill their needs. webber's best bet is to stay in sactown and hope they can make a couple of more moves to be in position to contend. ------------------ president of the sleepy floyd to hall of fame club. http://www.it-is-truth.org http://members.fortunecity.com/omar369
Getting Bibby makes that team alot better. Bibby is a better shooter, passer, and smarter playmaker. I also hear they might trade FOR Spree. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Charles Barkley
Spree will never be traded from New York. ------------------ ZeColmeia on stealing: "I did not steal anything. Ive used some of clutchcity player profiles when I first created the draft profile page."
Isn't A. Davis asking for the maximum, or close to it? If he is, I really don't see much advantage in taking him over Webber, othre than the fact that for Orlando, he looks like a sure thing. If Sacramento really offers Peja AND Doug Christie, the Knicks would be foolish not to take the deal. Spree's not quite a superstar, and Peja might eventually be as good. Even if he isn't, Christie definitely tips the scales in the Knicks favor. You get a good player, and a very good player, for one not-quite-excellent player. Great deal . ------------------ Clutchcity.net... source for all your Rockets, Astros, political, music, humor, and Gordita news. [This message has been edited by haven (edited July 03, 2001).]
Webbers best place to stay is Sacramento but, I still believe that he can not win anything there neither. (I thing Webber also know this). Bibby is a nice addition but is it really enough chemistry on team will have to be rebuild a little. Also Sacramento really needs a Center also Divac is just not going to cut it anymore. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Until he chokes Van Gundy. ------------------ I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.
Peja AND Christie....I'd want Peja, Christie, and Wallace. Knowing how scared the Kings are of losing him they'd most likely take that. The rumors were Peja and Gerald Wallace, that isn't enough. Anyway, maybe we could have a sign and trade for a decent Center? Nazr and Change? (I would do it, doubt stubborn Layden would) Considering the Knicks are meeting with Nazr and Houston listed the Hawks as one of the ten teams he'd play for, it's still a possibility. How many people do you think cheered when Camby knocked out Van Gundy? Atleast Sprewell doesn't get 33 technicals in a season. ------------------ ZeColmeia on stealing: "I did not steal anything. If arguably the best all-around power forward in the NBA wants to join a particular team, that team will find a way to make it happen. Webber hasn't lost ANY leverage 3 days into the free-agent talks period, 15 days before anyone could sign him even if they wanted to. It's amazing how much people spin things just to make the Rockets look better. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Certain teams have seemingly lost the patience and confidence to persue Webb (Rocks included) but it could be a smoke screen, who knows? Im sure no GM has forgotten that he is the best PF in basketball and any team would love to have him. It may be up to him to ask a certain team to go after him but his stock is not dropping. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
Since the beginning of the year, Webber has said the same things and been non-committal. No one expected anything to change in the first three days when he still couldn't have visited all of the teams. To think every team suddenly changed its mind and got impatient after 3 days is silly. Barring a few freak drafts, if a team wanted Webber a month ago, then they wanted Webber a week ago, and still do. ------------------ http://www.swirve.com ... more fun than a barrel full of monkeys and midgets.
Maybe Webber will stay in Sacramento, and sign a two or three year deal like Duncan did with SA to see if they are really legit next year. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Spree for Peja and Christie? Isn't New York the team with the three swingmen that DON'T get enough playing time? Now, trade ONE swingman for TWO, THEN you have a huge problem, don't u think? They can't even put them at PG anymore, cause Mark Jackson is there, backed up by Charlie Ward. Knicks would never do that. I honestly think a Kurt Thomas + Allan Houston + Lavor Postell for Webber is a fair deal. Sacramento upgrades from Chritie to Houston, and gets a VERY hardworking PF in Thomas. Postell is good, but it would be too over crowded for him to play. New York would have a depth problem though. There's a glitch in every deal. I think Webber will return to a BETTER THAN LAST YEAR Sacramento. Bibby averaged 7.8 assists on the GRIZZLIES. Imagine what he can do when he can pass it to Peja, Divac, Webber, Christie and Turkoglu (off the bench). Personally, I hope we keep Mo, cause with Mo, we can contend for a longer period of time, but Webber's production CAN'T get better than last year, I guarantee it. ------------------
