Do you mean 6th or are you taking into account the weaker East? Either way...I concur my friend...sigh.

We would probably get the 5th seed with a slightly easier schedule.

Except New Orleans and Memphis are both more East than Houston.

If anything, they should be in the east more than the rockets.

that is fine that would make us 7th/8th in the west if they leave :)

    To be more exact:

    1) Multiply our win % against EAST teams x 2

    2) Multiply our win % against WEST teams x 1

    3) Add up and divide by 3

    4) Multiply result by number of games played so far to get our hypothetical EAST record

    5) Check standings in east and see where we fall

If you extrapolate our east record and halve our west record, we would be 45-28, competing with Orlando for home court.

That's how bad the non-big three eastern teams are.

Maybe higher because we wouldn't play the west teams 4 times a year. We always do better against east teams than west teams.

We would be 5th seed in the West if we would have been playing this way all year.

And we wouldn't have half a chance to make it out... At least if we squeak into the playoffs in the west we have a chance to give the Spurs or Lakers a run for their money... Two sides to every coin....

Thats why it's been called the (L)eastern Conference for the past 25 years. MJ beat up bunch of one trick ponies and weak teams to get to the Finals, do you really see those Bulls teams in the 90s grinding out of a brutal 7 game series vs Rocktes, Jazz, Sonics in the West year in and year out? No.

It is what it is, the competition is inferior over there, you dont' have to bring your best over there every night and its ok to fall behind a little bit in the standings because you can afford to.

As Bill Worrell mentioned last night, perhaps the NBA should consider restructuring the playoff system. Look at these great matchups if you take the top 16 teams.

    1. San Antonio vs. 16. Phoenix
1/16 vs. 8/9 (SA vs. Denver)
    8. Orlando vs. 9 Denver
    (SA vs. Dallas)
    4. Dallas vs. 13 Memphis
4/13 vs. 5/12 (Dallas vs. Boston)
    5. Boston vs. 12 Atlanta

    (SA vs. LAL)= Lakers
    6. Miami vs. 11 New Orleans
3/14 vs. 6/11 (LAL vs. Miami)
    3. LA Lakers vs. 14 Houston
    (LAL vs. Chicago)
    7. OKC vs. 10 Portland
7/10 vs. 2/15 (OKC vs. Chicago)
    2. Chicago vs. 15. Philadephilia
