We will not trade KT unless it is for another PF. Why, because we only have Griffin and Cato left on the front court, if we do. There is no GM in his right mind who would bank on Mo's full recovery until he sees him in full action. What does that mean? That means Mo cannot be judged until *after* the deadline for KT's extension. (Don't even start that Mo is coming back for 5 games this season and we are going to trade KT based on that.) There is no way we don't give KT an extension, because if we don't, his trade value drops (at least I think it works that way). KT will get an extension and might be traded by the trade deadline in January. All other trade talk is premature and wrecklessly betting on Mo's full recovery, not to mention wrecklessly betting on the whole frontline going injury free. Sorry dudes, KT can't be traded for anything other that a PF or C. He must be traded for a frontliner...we are still way to light considering we have no backup center, and Cato doesn't have to offense or Mutombo All-NBA defense to be a 30mpg type of guy. If we learned ANYTHING this seaon, we learned that you can't go a whole season without only Cato, Griffin and Mo' especially when you don't even know if Mo' will be 100% or reinjure himself. Look at the last three yrs. 1999-2000 Hakeem, Barkley, Cato, TMass all missed major # of games 2000-2001 Cato, Hakeem, Collier again missed major # of games. 2001-2002 Mo out the whole season and Willis is probably not returning. How can you stand to go into another season light on the frontline, banking on no injuries. If you don't keep 4 solid frontliner for next year, you are banking on no injuries.
Make up your mind....from your thread title, you seem pretty confident that KT wont be traded....then you look at the post and there is this ridiculous stipulation that unless its for a PF or C...being that we are set at PG and SG, you shoudl re-phrase yuor thread title to say ... "KT wont be traded for a 3...bet me"
NJRocket, picky picky! I don't believe we can trade him for a better PF currently in the league. Why trade the 3rd most improved player in the league (1st be Jermaine; 2nd being Cuttino). We could trade him for a higher draft pick to get a PF, that's about it. Why not just trade him later, after the extension. He won't be traded this off-season, unless it is for Tsing Tao. That is my predition. behad and BGM... so what is the countdown until heypartner is released? btw: doesn't heypartner look so much sweeter in print than crispee??
well if he is traded it will be for a better frontcourt player, most likely a sf. I'm not too sold on him being traded though ... I doubt we would get comparable value. But he is THE best trade bait we have outside of our untouchables, and if we are involved in talks for a star player, KT's name will be in there. I think we could probably bank on MoT at least being a backup next year. If KT was traded Griff and Mo could compete for the starting spot, which wouldn't be such a bad thing. And we would definitely need someone back among the spare parts who could play both backup C and pf, say someone of Etan Thomas calibur perhaps?
since when are swingmen considered frontcourt? If you want a stud frontcourter, trade Francis for Ming and 6'5 22yr old PG Jamal Crawford. Then use your #6 on best player available to develop and you still have major trade value down the line. Case closed. hehe So, does that count as a mockingbird quote. Where's my polyanna reply?
I wouldn't necessarily consider Marion and Odom as "swingmen". actual "mockingbird" quotes require quotation marks, and now you are twice burned, hehe.
Why do all you Rocket fans even want to consider trading KT anyway. He is highly valuable to us playing on our team. He is approaching pillar stage, if you ask me. I prefer other teams hear from him rather than us hear from him. Remember somebody said that he kills EG in practice. As Rockets fans, you should make the mental adjustment needed to allow you to see this as a special talent, to be kept. " A bird in the hand is worth two in the bushes."
Eddie said it first way back in preseason. Rhetorical Question: So, how is KT hurting Eddie's development, again? Certainly not in practice, according to Steve, Eddie and Kenny.
I hope that KT will not be traded (and I don't think he will) anytime soon - soon being in the next 6-10 months. He is the only low post presence on the team and I only see us losing in a trade involving Kenny at this time. I even think it is possible to keep the frontcourt as is, as far as breakdown goes. Griffin and Cato can spend (and have spent) time at the five and, imo, would be better than aything we could get in a deal using KT (if we were going for a KT for center trade). Now if we are talking about different types of combos/packages to mess things around, everything changes.
Rudy said as much in the paper the other day when he said he could see Taylor, Thomas and Griffin on the floor together. I think HP is right that Thomas will get an extension before he's traded. They won't assume Taylor will be back to his old self. It is worth considering how much he's being paid. Thomas is worth way more now than he's paid. So, he's especially good trade bait if we're trying to unload a high-dollar contract with him. He would make for a very poor 1-to-1 trade target until his pay raise kicks in because we couldn't get a well-paid player in return (maybe someone coming off a rookie contract that looks likely to bolt?). I think if the Rocks really want to unload Cato, Rice and/or Taylor, Thomas is a sure goner. I doubt they are that desperate though.
Crispee, I hope you did not think I was saying that KT was hurting EG. I was saying we should not trade KT because he is a devil to opponents as EG can testify, so why give that up so we can now have another great PF to try and contain, when he plays us. I am all for him remaining with the team. I just do not see someone out there that I would want while giving up KT. The people I would consider are untouchable on their team.
I also believe our mindset is to do whatever we can to dominate as so as possible to get some asses in the seats. If the talk on Rice is true I would say lets stockpile our talent. I agree with Rim. Exchanging talent at this point is a waste of our time. Consolidate our gains and get to next season deep and injury free. Look, to last year's 45 win team we are adding next year EG, OT, Tmo, Rice, and a pick or two, to go along with a significantly improved KT, Moochie and Mobes. All Wink has to do is look at some tapes on AI to see how to improve his finishing around the basket instead of praying to the refs and we would be very competitive.
Such as KT + Rice for Brian Grant. (I mentioned this in a different thread.) Not that I would necessarily see us keeping B.G. (power forward glut). But Miami might bring Rice home and could certainly use KT. I didn't say it was gonna happen, just giving a "for instance."
I ask myself where are all these wacky trade ideas are coming from and then I realize that folks have nothing to do or say now we are not in the playoffs. So they loosen their tie, smoke some weed and let the ideas flow. Whatever, bro!
DearRock...no, I didn't mean to imply you at all. sorry. crisco, You think the Clippers would ask for KT in a trade for Odom? Wouldn't you expect the Clippers to really want a star PG in any trade for Odom? Seems like they'd take that Duke wonderboy for Odom straight up. Odom would be super for us...absolutely. There is probably no other play in the league I'd rather want for SF for us, but I guess I'm dismissing it as unreal, unless Odom has some kind of say in the matter, or a great PG is on the board at our pick. I just don't think much of that involves Kenny going to Brandland. It makes sense that the Clips could consider Odom expendable with Miles (and Quenting probably tall enough to swing over occassionally); but man, surely they want a PG to be the main feature of that trade. Hell, they may take Wagner straight up for Odom, too. As for Marion, I just cannot see him going anywhere. That owner is not that stupid is he? Why do you mention Marion, as if they would trade him in his extension year. I presume this would be a KT + #6 type trade. I guess I'd pull that trade, but how real is that? Juan, I agree about the one-for-one. It is like Marion's situation. Suns can't make any one-for-one's for him that are fair to them. And then after KT signs an extension, presumably for league average salary ala Mobley, he has BYC issues amounting to about $3.5m trading gap, correct? Making him further difficult to trade. btw: BYC is adjusted on signing anniversaries, which means we'll sign him quickly after July 1st, if we want to keep him. I don't see us packaging KT with Cato or Mo, and I do not think Rice can be moved. imo, the only KT trade this summer is packaging him with our #6 pick.
