I am drooling over how Damon Jones is now a starter in Miami and leads the league in 3s...for a mere $2.5 mil. He is from Houston and I'm sure we could've signed him. He would've fit our offense perfectly - good size, great shooter, low TOs, etc. But we are stuck w/Sura (who I like but can't shoot and Ward, well, who is Ward. What if!!!?

dont forget rafer alston, who is looking like a keeper.

You could probably blame the signings on JVG cant imagine him coaching players likem jones and alston

Yea Rafer is great...but I think he fits more of an uptempo offense, not our slow-motion style  Plus he got mucho $ compared to Damon but I think he turned out to be much better than most people thought b/c I remember ppl questioned the amount he got.

I've been watching some heat games and damon jones can't really dribble all that well. Not really a good option if you want to take some of the pressure off McGrady. Sure he can shoot 3's but with JVG coaching, his shot would surely fall off the face of the earth.

i saw him last summer in NYC and he told me he would love to come here and this is his favorite team.

he can't play defense. he isn't the rebounder sura is. but he can shoot.

if I hear about another good player woh wasnt allowed to come to the Rox because of his supposed lack of defense, I'll shoot JVG. This is the same schmuck who let Mark Jackson start last year, what the hell could he do on the defensive end. Ward's defense skills are non-existent. JVG is a frigging cancer

We should have signed Sura and Jones instead of Ward for our two pg rotation. But I'm pretty sure that we only signed Ward to two guaranteed years. This is according to an espn insider article I read a couple months back. Still, Jones would have been so much better than Ward.

The Sura signing was a good one. He is a solid player and is cheap, basically a good value at around 2.5M a year.

There were some other PGs that were NOT good values like Derek Fisher and Raefer Alston, guys that signed for the FULL MLE. Ridiculous.

However, the guy we REALLY missed out on, and mentioned above, is DAMON JONES. He WANTED to come to Houston. He signed a 2 year 5M contract with the Heat (2.5M a year). That's the SAME money we gave Ward.

Basically JVG was more comfortable with Ward and thus went with him which now has turned out to be a HUGE mistake considering we could have had Damon Jones.

Jones' play in Miami has been very good and he is actually hitting 3ptrs, something our team isnt doing now.

Ward will rot on the bench this year and next and then we will kick him to the curb.

The only thing I will say with Ward, is that while we made a mistake with him, at least it was a CHEAP mistake and not something like a Moochie mistake or a contract like Derek Fisher got. A 2 year mistake at small dollars is a lot better than a SEVEN year mistake at 3-5M.

Who's to say Jones wouldn't suck here as well? Howard and Mo could once shoot too.

Mo played well off the bench with Steve/Cutino and Cato.
    Howard played well.. at Michigan.

the knock on him is he never cares to defend.. but nevertheless, valuable for the price! with his consistent shooting touch and good decision making on offense.

Damon Jones would be a nice backup PG. He is an upgrade over Barett and maybe even Sura. I blame the Ward signing on Van Grumpy.

If JVG is not fired soon, then from now on, anyone he signed but not played, should have his salary paid out from JVG's paycheck.
