    Can you imagine this lineup...

    Mobley
    Francis
    Griffin
    Webber
    Cato

Webber is exactly the kind of player we needed.

I was one of the bigger advocates for this at the time. Those against cited team chemistry, Mo Taylor, and the possibility of losing Moochie, Shandon, and Hakeem as reasons not to...

Now, of course, some will say we didn't really have a chance. I always say, take any chance on becoming a Championship team over playing it safe and reaping mediocrity. The only real info we have regarding whether or not we could have gotten Webber is from the horse's mouth, and he says he would have seriously considered coming here had we gone after him.

With all the posts dissing Mo and Mooch and Shandn and Dream's leaving us, it looks like we'll really regret not signing Webber.

pippendagimp: Sorry buddy but i didn't take anything from your post. I am a bigger baseball fan so i've known this joke for a long long time.

Back to the topic, Our attendance would be amazing too right now with our twin towers up front(Hakeem and Webber) and best of all, Hakeem retires a Rocket:( .

I, for one, never understood the whole "resign our own" thing.
I think that Moochie is a valuable piece, but letting Dream (over the hill), Mo (one dimensional scorer), and Shandon (worthless) go wouldn't have made me sweat if we could've gotten Webber in return.
But instead, we picked up Glen Rice's fat contract (despite already being aware of his questionable health) and signed Mo (whose importance to our team would've disappeared if we had gotten Webber).
I think that the Rockets got cold feet in the end, not wanting to put all of their eggs in one basket by trying to sign Webber. If they had failed, they would've also alienated their own free agents and would've been left with nothing to show. But they ended up losing most of their free agents anyway! They took the safe bet, spreading their chips, and they still lost. Rudy and Carol are very lucky that Eddie fell down to seven and that the Nets were willing to deal him. Without Griffen, this offseason would've been a total botch and both might have been out after the end of this pathetic campaign.
