You mean the one that quit on the team because a top 50 player took his spot in the starting lineup. I'm glad he helped us win a championship, but it doesn't excuse him for being a punk arse loser.

The dude had pride and heart. He didnt want to lose his starting job. Im glad Clyde came, but Vernon was a pure Rocket and spend most of his career with the Rockets.

He deserves better. Out of all the Rockets, in the last play of the game, Max was the best.

    I support him.

About as much as he supports his kids.

I don't know what we should do. We need to tell him thanks from Clutch Fans and wish him luck.

You must not have read the "Countdown to Steve exit" thread.

We've already barked up that tree, and it turns out that most people don't care about that sort of thing, sadly enough.

This goes down as one of the worst threads ever. The guy was able to play a game and make more in a few years than alot of will see in our lifetime. Then we are supposed to feel sorry for him for beating on a girl and not paying child support just b/c he had some good season with the Rockets.

This is even a worse case of jock worship than everyone praising Kobe for comitting adultry and being charged w/ rape.

This is one of the best threads ever. This guy has problems and he needs help. Kobe is arogant and expects people to do what he wants. Don't even compare Kobe to Vernon. Sure he beat up some hoes. At least non of them were teenagers.

Vernon is the modern day Michael Ray Richardson.

Vernon Maxwell will always be a winner.
Ask the Suns and the Knicks.

Sorry, I did not catch sarcasm as the basis for your entire thread.

His crowning achievement as an NBA player came in 1994. Starting with Kenny Smith in the backcourt for the Houston Rockets, Maxwell finished with 21 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, helping lead the Rockets to their first NBA championship.

Dude, Michael Ray Richardson cleaned up his act finally is now with the Denver Nuggets as a scout. He had the same problems as Maxwell.

We as Rockets fans should show some support. I support Calvin Murphy too. He may have some issues, but he needs help and support not hatred.

Look at John Lucas, he turned it around.

    This thread proves the point.

If Maxwell was such a 'pure Rocket' he wouldn't have caused such a problem when he had the chance to have a player like Drexler join the team.

And he sure as hell wouldn't have up and quit on us in the middle of the damn playoffs.

    True loyalty, eh?

He helped us when he was here...and then quit on us when we arguably needed him most. Its a shame what he's going through now, but it doesn't seem like much that isn't of his own making.

    Apparently,
you didnt watch the Rockets back in the day to know of Vernon's last second shots and clutch 4th quarter play.
You must be a Laker fan.

Sure he hit some last second shots, but so did Elie, Horry, Cassel.
Even though Vernon was pretty clutch, I wouldn't say he was any more clutch than some other we had.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!!!

I was a Max fan in '94, but he flushed that goodwill down the toilet when he chose to stay home rather than help the team in '95.

He is a punk that deserves the life he created for himself. I certainly hope he is able to turn his life around, but make no mistake about it, he made this bed all by himself.
