I don't know what we're gonna trade Toronto to get him here, or if Toronto is even willing to look at offers for him, but these 4 numbers are insane: 25.36 MPG 7.6 APG 1.3 TO 6.0 Asst/TO ratio Top that with 50% shooting, 44.1% 3-point shooting on 1.5 attempts per game. 10 PPG with 2.7 rebounds to boot. The only thing he loses out is in steals. I'd say, he's just about ready for a starting job and not backing up TJ Ford. Get him here Morey. Do whatever other than trading Tmac, Yao, Shane and Scola. Just get him here.
You are saying he is doing great. You are saying his numbers are insane. You are saying he is ready to be put in the starting lineup on the Raptors. If this is all true then... Why the hell would Raptors trade him? Why the hell would they trade him to us for chump change? Other side has feelings too. Let's not dehumanize them. You are right in saying that he would look very good here, though.
No, they wouldn't. I propose a ban on any thread or post with Jose Calderon's name in it (in this forum). The guy is good...we get it....we won't be getting him.
It truly amazes me how many times we see a trade proposition that involes an up and coming or proven player, and all we see offered on the Rockets side is who everyone considers garbage and are trying to unload. Make no sense much? You want Calderon, you gotta give up something on the same level or same NEED level for Toronto. Think of it this way. If we already had Calderon, what would it take for YOU to trade him away? I think you DO have to include anyone on the roster minus Tracy and Yao. Unless you want to trade one of them for multiple players.
He's not picking up much hype though. Which is odd. But I wouldn't be surprised if GMs are all wanting him now though. You're right in that Toronto probably wouldn't wanna let him go, but what if we make it a package deal? Kapono was a mistake for them. I'd willingly take Kapono's salary in return if they do a Calderon-Kapono deal. Send them Mike James and Luther Head plus picks. I think it's enough to satisfy the 25% rule which makes the deal work. Just fantasising
Just a guess, but if the Raptors were to trade a PG, they'd probably trade Ford... Calderon has a very bright future. The irony also is if the Rockets were to trade for a PG with Toronto, they'd likely be looking to move one of their PGs and Toronto would want a backup. Rafer would be ideal, but he would not be welcome back with the Raptors (Sam Mitchell) and not sure if they'd want Mike James back either.
Shall we talk to the Knicks? Oh wait, JVG is no longer here, haha. Everything about the Rockets in recent history has been a LOT of deja vu.
WOW, Ford would be a pipe dream if we ever could pull that off. But I thought he was one of their untouchable players? I heard the GM wanted to mimic the Suns and Ford was going to be their "Steve Nash".
It would be undeniably cruel to send anyone from this team to the Knicks Everyone up there wants out as it is and I don't blame them.
Where do you hear that Kapono was a mistake? I'm right here in Ontario and there's no such grumblings. He certainly wasn't worth the full MLE and might be redundant with Delfino and Moon playing well, but three-point shooting never hurts in the Raptors' offense. Also, the Raptors didn't want either Alston or Mike James. Why would they want them now when they're making more money and playing much worse?
At his salary? IIRC, it's something like 6 mill a year for the next 5 years or something like that. That's a hell lot of money to pay for a guy who does nothing but shoot shoot and shoot. -3.6 in +/- ratings. That's not exactly worth 6 million is it? I agree with Clutch. Looking through their roster, it seems like the only spot that they need some help in might be the backcourt. To be fair, TJ Ford isn't that bad himself. He can run an offense and he can sure as hell attack the basket. The only reason why Toronto might wanna move him is his body can't keep up with the kind of reckless abandon he plays. That's like 2 serious injuries he's had in recent years now. Maybe they wouldn't take Rafer or MJ back to play, but a young prospect like Brooks or Luther might interest them. Throwing in MJ would then save them a few million off Kapono's contract.
Well that kills my Kapono theory then. Still, verify this for me, does Kapono play any defense? From what I've seen in Miami, he sure as hell doesn't. IDK. He's a heck of a shooter, but as a player, he doesn't give me a good impression; almost like he thinks he's better than he actually is.
Both are young and the Raptors books are manageable. IMO they'll try to keep the two. There has to be a reason for a team to give up player that's performing. Brent Barry might be someone to look at. He might retire or go somewhere else for a better role/pay next season. IIRC the Rockets were interested in him as a point guard back in 2004 when he was a free agent.
why not just go after Ford? I'm sure the Raptors are worried about his neck. They might take Mike James + draft pick for him considering James' success in his 1 year stint there.
Because Ford is the engine of their offense. He not only dishes, but he's lightning fast and can score the bsaketball too. Calderon is more of your traditional point man I think, more steady, but less of a dynamic impact than Ford, which might make him slightly more expendable.
Calderon's contract with the raptors will be over soon. Rockets should offer him good money to get him.
