Will the real Rocket team please stand up! With a record of 17-14, no clear indication of which Rocket team we have and with no true leadership on the sideline. The Rockets need a change at the head coaching position. My subject is titled fire Rudy T. but in his defense he really needs to be reassigned to the front office. He (Rudy) has no control over this team. Steve commits to many turnovers. Cuttino does not pass the ball enough and plays spot defense. Our point and 2 guard play to many minutes. Glen Rice should not start! Eddie Griffin has regressed. The list goes on and on. The make up of our team is young. Young players need some direction at times. I believe that Steve and Cuttino are trying to build identities for themselves but the remainder of our players seem lost. And someone needs to tell Cuttino that he is a role player. He is the 3rd option on our team.

Let me be the first to say, I agree completely.

Most of the people who disagree will point to the two championship rings and the fact that the team is very young. To that, I say, the championships were nearly a decade ago and rarely, if ever, do you see a coach who is able to reach the championship level after rebuilding with his team - I applaud Rudy for trying, but don't see his coaching stlye fitting well with our players. Secondly, the team IS young, but what does that have to do with seeing very small, game by game improvement. I'd expect inconsistencies, but within that I'd also expect to see a pattern (kinda like if you take out the noise - inconsistency - there should still be a pattern of improvement left over).

Rudy is cool. Rudy is a Houston legend and will not be forgotten by the city and its people. But that doesn't mean he is a good coach for this team.

Why is it that so many Rockets fans on this board think Rudy T's such a bad coach, yet just about every player in the league would like to be a part of a Rudy T team?

There's a reason so many players say they'd love the opportunity to play for Rudy T.

And that reason is that a lot of players would like to play for a coach that lets them do whatever they want to do on the floor...unfortunately that usually turns ugly, unless you happen to have Hakeem out there...people like to point to our 45 wins 2 yrs ago, but few recall how well Dream was playing during that stretch...Luckily we traded him and signed MoTrashterTaylor to a long term contract....

Give me more than one quote where an opposing player says he'd love to play for Rudy T.

I bet rudy would make a great coach for the Rucker...Cash Money Millionaires or Fat Joe's Terror Squad would both love rudy's ISO-rich, dribble till yo heart's content style of set plays.

I can't say that I'm pleased with the recent travails of this team, but firing Rudy T would make this team collapse onto itself. The players, esp. Steve, Cat, and YAO, are all very attached to Rudy. Sinecyou're unlikely to promote from within, bringing in a nw coach at this time would do little to improve our team. Yes, we need more discipline and better focus, but we all heard Cat the other day say that the players keep doing the opposite of what Rudy tells them. They can't help themselves a lot of times. Give Rudy and this team until the end of the year. If we make the playoffs, be happy. If we don't, Rudy will need to start cleaning out his locker.
PS - As a follow-up to the "Fire Rudy" demand, I'd like to to know who you Rudy bashers are gonna bring in that will make this team better in the middle of this season.

nevermind, dont waste your valuable time cause you won't find one.

I think your remembering back when Rudy coached the USA basketball team in the Sydney Olympics when Keith Jones said in a few articles that every player says they would love to play for Rudy T. Its a cool thing to say about your boss but I assume he was exaggerating more than a little when he said most players. But saying bullcrap will help one get promoted from trainer to vice president of basketball operations.

I don't think 17-14 record will promote Rudy to VP, but failure to reach playoff will do.

ever see rudy lay a tongue-lashing on steve or mobley for jacking up unwarranted shots and dribbling through triple teams? uh, didn't think so. all the screaming and yelling is reserved for the refs. you see, it was the refs' fault that steve turned the ball over when he tries to do "And 1" moves against the defense.

now can you see why players would love to play for rudy? he doesn't hold any of his players accountable for their mistakes.

Rudy has been with this team for a long time and no doubt, more or less he's contributed to it, but that's where his positives end. All the other coaches, if they've not had success for this long would have been long replaced. Heck, even good teams fire their coaches when they don't win a champ for a long time. The last time this team won a championship was almost a decade ago so it may be time for some change. I'm not even gonna argue whether or not Rudy's a good coach but it may be time to move in a different direction.

Rudy has a great advantage having security of longevity and future. Players cannot go around him.

Sometimes I'd like a hot, young coach. Then I see crap come out about Doc (thru HoGrant/TMac episode). Or Carlisle in Detroit but I see scrappy players buying into a ststem which fits them as Hubie Brown's system fit the Hawks and Knicks a generation ago, but grew old. Fast.

I will gladly retain Rudy. I am glad for Rudy. And BTw, if Rudy goes Boylan or Smith is likely new coach. Would either change anything?

    Here's 1.

Webber talked openly about his affection for the Rockets after the game. He mentions in nearly every city he visits how he would like to play there, but his love for Houston appeared genuine.

"I definitely love the coach (because) Rudy Tomjanovich is a Michigan guy," he said. "I've known Steve since college and been able to watch him develop and work with him. I just have to be patient and wait until the end of the year and think about it. I know my family here in Houston hates to hear that, because I know they want me here. It's something I just want to take my time with."

It's not the best one Webber said of Rudy T, but if you REALLY want, I can find more Webber ones. In the meantime, I'll find some from other players.

    #2. Marc Jackson.
    http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bk/bkn/1066912

"It's very good news," Jackson, 26, said. "I'm very excited. I can't wait to get started. This is the team I wanted to be with. It's a chance to be with a great organization. Even guys around the league that never played here say that.

"They have great talent, one of the best coaches in the league (Rudy Tomjanovich), the best GM (Carroll Dawson). It's going to be great."
