By the trade deadline. if not this franchise is in trouble. like DD said in his video we need to choose a direction: we are either the underdog rockets team that always manages to make it to the playoffs or a franchise that just lost two stars and is in rebuilding mode. The only thing we can hope for right now is to keep playing as a team, and keep building chemistry, and pray that daryl morey reels in a superstar (melo, iggy, wallace) without destroying our roster and bring in a decent Center (nene, dalembert, jordan, haywood) without doing the same. But one thing i never hear on the board is, remember last year, before the deadline, kevin martin rumors were dead, in fact people had forgotten about him, because the kings gm said he wasnt on the market. so have faith in morey. So like i said, the team needs to have an identity, cause of right now, no one knows what we are. I mean we show signs of life when we beat the lakers, or celtics, but then get embarrassed by the worst teams in the league the next day. We as fans don't know who we are, and i dont think adleman and les know either. and if we dont know before the deadline, the team is going to crumble. and bad.
Yeah, he said it. So what? He is 100% correct on this. I agree completely. I have no idea what this team is trying to do.
We can talk about tanking, rebuilding or developing all we want but unless something changes before the deadline, Morey has chosen to stay the course and wait until a superstar or at least a high level star is found. Don't think he'll mortgage the farm at the deadline for an adequate center but I do see him bringing in a pretty big band-aid at the center spot. He wants to get to the playoffs and so understands that without Chuck Hayes we are a pretty below average team, with Chuck we are slightly below to average and with a true center probably a playoff team.
i'm sure our front office knows we need to choose a direction, they are just waiting for the opportunity to arise.
Does that mean this team has no idea what this team is trying to do? What makes fans think "we" don't have a direction? Because they lack the ability to comprehend the direction? To me it seems the direction is quite clear.
I believe Daryl Morey already made it clear that he want's to make the playoffs and believes this team can do some damage, as soon as we make that one trade that's going to put us on top before trade deadline. For those who are losing hope in this team, how often do you guy's do that, every season?
I agree. It wasn't until a month and half ago when it bacame completely clear that the team's future wasn't hitched to Yao that the course finally changed into full on rebuilding mode. I thought that was pretty clear to everyone. Until this season we had his immovable contract and the course taken was usually in creating the team around him. It's now clear that the team won't be built around Yao and Morey is steering the team in that direction. It doesn't mean we don't try to be a winning team in the interim. It doesn't mean the squad on the floor doesn't try to get into the playoffs. Is that what's confusing everyone?
Read my sig. But regardless, I was halfway done typing my same exact story on we need to know what were doing so it doesnt pain us but then deleted. If we are rebuilding, then fine. Happy actually. But show it. Play our rookies more. Trade Scola and/or Martin but Scola definitely shouldn't be part of a rebuilding. Martin is younger so he can get a pass.
How about ... We are an underdog team that just lost two stars, trying to make it to the playoffs while rebuilding.
I think DM has positioned the team to go in a lot of different directions and will choose one based upon what happens at the trade deadline. DD
Morey on his twitter also said this team would surprise people. By surprise he meant being really good, but far from it.
Morey is thinking long-term this means going young. The direction is clear, but the motive behind it isn't. Once they choose the direction, it will be a three part process, and it ain't happening over night.
This is why we lack an identity, we just dont know who we are as a team and where we are going. We are not Yaos team anymore and we are not that gritty team others hate playing agasint. Are we going to contend or tank or settle with mediocrity? Do we stick with our vets in Martin, Battier and Scola or choose Lee, T-Will and Pat to build around? If we can choose a clear path and strategy it will kickstart the process for developing an identity.
The rockets are in the middle of nothing which is a bad place unless halle berry is on one side and salli richardson is on the other.
Its easy to say the team needs to make decisions now...but sometimes (often times) it is far batter to delay decisions until the timing is right. That means you are ready for whatever opportunity presents itself, rather than take a direction that eliminates possibilities you might have rather preferred. One of the most important aspects of decision making....in basketball or in life...is knowing when is the very best time to make a decision. The Rockets need not rush, need not take a path just for the sake of making a decision, but rather need to be loaded and fully ready to take advantage of the best opportunity that presents itself. That opportunity will come....lets just hope we do not make a decision which precludes taking full advantage of it.
