Harden can't be playing too many minutes or else he'll be too exhausted by the end of the season. Who would be a good backup for him? Here's a list of free agent SG's DeShawn Stevenson Anthony Morrow Keith Bogans Jerry Stackhouse Ben Gordon Gerald Henderson Leandro Barbosa O.J. Mayo Richard Hamilton Marco Belinelli Tony Allen Wayne Ellington Ray Allen Corey Maggette Kim English Kent Bazemore Lance Stephenson Willie Green Jodie Meeks Marquis Daniels Brandon Roy Roger Mason Jr. Kevin Martin J.R. Smith Ronnie Brewer Manu Ginobili Gary Neal J.J. Redick Francisco Garcia Tyreke Evans Wesley Johnson Shannon Brown Diante Garrett Randy Foye Kevin Murphy Martell Webster Cartier Martin Elliot Williams Sasha Pavlovic Nick Young Royal Ivey Damien Wilkins Mickael Pietrus Garrett Temple Daequan Cook James Anderson Terence Williams Terrel Harris Andrew Goudelock Justin Holiday
I agree that we need an explosive back up sg as a 6th man option. Wonder how much Nick Young will be getting?
Rarely do teams run a 10-man rotation, but I do agree we need one compatible backup swingman with Beverely(as the PG) for our bench perimeter help. I want Stephen Jackson or Matt Barnes. Some grit, some 3pt shooting, and gives us some toughness. Peitrus and Neal would be my 3rd and 4th options. It's certain we need 3pt shooting and defense.
Morey might still be interested in Elliot Williams. Probably sign someone cheap here though. Like parsons-esqe contract
In reality, this is the least pressing need the Rockets have. Harden's mins don't need to decrease but his usage on offense absolutely must. They have to sign or trade for another legit offensive option so Harden doesn't always have to make things happen. This would also allow to Harden expend more energy on defense.
Lin, Beverley, and Harden make a very good guard rotation with Anderson playing spot minutes. I do think the Rockets need to either use room exception on Garcia, Delfino or another wing that can play SF (and maybe some PF in small ball).
The backup for Harden is Dwight Howard. That's the plan at least. Harden played a ton not because we don't have a solid backup SG, but because we don't have a solid backup superstar.
Tyreke would be awesome coming off the bench, even tho the guy is a ballhog I think it would be instant offense something that we lacked last season
I hope Cisco comes back for the minimum. He liked it here and will have a chance to win a championship if we get Howard
The ideal backup sg is a wing defender who can hit an occasional three. Like courtney lee or sefalosha or even tony allen. But he needs to come CHEAP. My answer is to draft Michael Snaer.
