Forget trading SF or Mobley we need to trade Mo and Cato for a power forward badly. We are a power forward away from contending for a Championship. Any ideas on who we can get for Mo and Cato in the off season?
I like what Cato is bringing just needs to bring it off the bench Yao - SF - Cat - JJ - CAT0 - should all come back MO T and NAchbar are among those i am so so on Pike, Padget, Weatherspoon, MJax - I would not be overly upset if they were moved [I'm apt to give Pike and AGriff a mulligan] Rocket RIver
Well, maybe we can trade with Minn fro Kevin McHale....he's a little rusty, but would be better than what we have.....
I think it's safe to say that Les isn't calling Karl Malone this offseason. Rasheed Wallace, I would think, is about the best you can hope for without giving up any major core players. I have to think Detroit is now willing to give him big dollars though. Seattle will be housecleaning, but their #1 target also is a PF. The Clippers and Warriors could be willing to make moves also. Currently, the players considered to be the top two in the draft are fours (Okafor and Howard), so which power forwards get traded this offseason could depend on who gets the top 2 picks in the draft. The lottery to determine that order is one month from today (May 26).
And you folks are just NOW seeing this? This has been a need for the past 3 years - it's come to a head now because of the EG fiasco. In the playoffs, all of your weakness get exposed and this has been a weakness for 3 years now. It was inevitable that they had to pay the piper for that disaster and on Sunday, pay they did. As for keeping Pike, NO! A Griffin? HELL NO! (why? so he can be hurt NEXT year as well?)
Hate him or not --- if we would have had Karla instead of the Lakers we win this series. We are not major pieces away from winning we are a strong power forward away.
Man EG hurt this team badly. He was supposed to be our answer at 4 and he was getting better. DAMM!!!!!! I think this team would be up 3-1 if EG was in the line up. I know this is old but I know we would be a lot better team with him. EG you could have been the difference maker!!!! Htownrocketfan
Power forward is a must this off-season and the power forward has to be versatile and athletic and quick. They need a big man that is comfortable defending out on the perimeter because Yao, Cato, and Taylor sure as hell can’t do it. I’m tired of seeing Malone, and B. Miller, and Dirk, and Radmanovic, and Camby, and Lo. Wright torch the Rockets by hitting WIDE-OPEN 15-18 foot jumpers all game long. I don’t know if this is the defensive strategy or what, but these power forwards that can take their game outside have a field day against the Rockets big men.
If I were the GM, I will keep Yao, SF, JJ and Cato(off the bench). Unless Cat is willing to come off the bench, I will trade him as my valuable chips along with Mo T. As Jonathan said the other day, we need 1. someone who can play 1 AND 2 and help Steve Franics share the burden of decision making and controlling the game flow. Brant Barry probably the best FA available. 2. A solid PF starter who can play both ends of the court. Helping defense, rebounding AND knock down the open shots 3. Another solid consistent outside shooter. Even JJ and Cat had their career best in terms of 3pts shooting, we need one more threat to make it unpredictable. Pike is supposed to be that kind of man but he is a total disappointment. And please let us have a solid bench so our starting guard can play less mins next year.
Man, as you say that, I just plain hate Eddie Griffin, he should be this kind of guy we want, what a pathetic man!!! He abused himeself and he abused Rox.
Everyone is in agreement a PF is needed but without giving up anything significant. Who should the Rockets try to trade. I believe they should keep the following: Steve, Cat, Yao, Cato, JJ and Boki.
He Hurt this team in all kinds of ways. Man Imagin where we would be with him. He was great on D with his blocking abilty and he could drill the 3 point shot. Karla wouldn't have been able to guard him.
Lookin back on the days with Eddie eh? I just wonder how good he couldve been. I agree with everyone though. We do need a PF that can hit open jumpers and rebound the ball. Shareef? Jamison? Wallace? Brand? I would even go after someone like Al Harrington if we kept Cato...6,9 250. I think if the Bulls get one of the first 2 picks then Tyson Chandler is gone. I think he would be good too, but this team needs an experienced PF. We also need a PG that can run a fastbreak. Steve looks like he's been doing a better job, but we were last in the league with fastbreak points this year. Brake Check got off real easy this season haha. I'm not saying trade Steve, but move him to the two. The Sixth man is becoming more and more valuable. Mobley can be our 6th man ala Bobby Jackson, Ginobili, Mason. He can make up for the bench scoring we'll lose with Mo. (hopefully hes in Charlotte! haha) Game 5 on wednesday. Lets GO Rockets! We Believe!
Which means to me -- that if the Rox want to move Stevie, and I believe they do, then Brand for SF = same contract + fills the other's need (particularly of Clips are 1st or 2nd in Lotto). However, Dice for MLE and not have to use a great 'chip' would be more sensical.
I think Al Harrington could be a possibility. He's a PF, although he's played some at SF, and he's not content coming off the bench behind Jermaine O'Neal. Indiana will trade him for the right deal, but a lot of teams covet Harrington. The Pacers will definitely listen if we offer Cuttino, but I don't know if a straight-up swap would be enough.
I'm always glad to see other fans come to realize what I've been harping on for over a year. The Rockets badly need a legit power forward, and it is their most glaring weak spot in the rotation. Raven
I hope we keep our core intact.. our main need is a PF Egriffin would have been nice but im thinking he was too skinny to body up and play tough defense. Can you imagine Griffin playing defense on Shaq? He is a great shot blocker and weak side defender but poor at playing tough man to man defense. His shooting would have been helpful though.. I dont think we need a superstar PF.. thats unrealistic but the PF's that are available would be. Dice (if he can stay healthy), Rasheed, Okur I wouldnt mind trading for PJ Brown, KThomas, Brian Grant (too expensive though but since they have Odom may trade to get themselves a legitimate center), CBoozer.. The types that get the job done, play tough defense and have a good midrange game. Out of that group Brown and KThomas are my favorites.. I would also like to shore up the SF position, I think JJ is doing a great job but he would be more effective as a 2 guard and have Mobley come off the bench .. J
Damn, it makes me just so much more disappointed in Eddie Griffin . . . He would've been the PERFECT PF for this team -- good rebounder/shot-blocker. Can shoot decently from the outside. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
