We as Rockets fans should subside the hatred toward the Jazz/Lakers, and redirect the energy toward the real sorry punks' team --- the Suns. Last night, I watched the replay of the Best Damn Sports Show Period on Fox, and Marbury was there talking about how bad Yao Ming is and Amare Stoudamire should be the ROY. He used the words "maybe popularity wise Ming can win it, but basketball wise, it's not even close, Amare is the ROY". Man, what an ass he is? It's not even close basketball wise for Yao to beat Amare? He either had too much cocaine or had too much pillow talk with Stoudamire I guess. Adding his touting to Francis and bad mouthing, I just hate him. And, don't forget about the Pippen looking Marion and punk behaving Stoudamire. They together just formed the Sun of b****es. Let's hate them!!!
I could see Steve Francis doing and saying the same thing if it were him in that position. I mean come on now, Amare would be a worthy candidate if not Yao Ming. Marbury and the Suns will root for Amare and Francis and the Rockets will root for Yao. As far as the bad mouthing, I really don't care for it myself.
I've always enjoyed Steph's game. The Matrix and the sun's overall are an entertaining team to watch. However, the Jazz and the Lakers pose a bigger threat to our playoff hopes so we must continue to hate them. The sons will set on their own.
I liked A.S. but other day he was asked who he thought the ROY should be, he said "caron butler", other than that, he showed VERY poor interview skills, I don't think he is mentally mature as his body looks like
i'm never a fan on Marbury. He has nothing good to say anyone except for himself. I didn't vote for him in the All-Star and never will. He also say Amare has more potential than Garnett.
if he didn't support his teammate, he'd be a moron. of course he's going to say that. geez, some of you need to relax. it's not quite the end of the world.
We must hate the Suns. Lakers will make the playoffs, regardless of how well we play. We must overtake the Suns.
Protecting your own is one thing but look at his quote again: "maybe popularity wise Ming can win it, but basketball wise, it's not even close, Amare is the ROY". Not even close? Take a look at the numbers Yao gets 13 pts, 8. 1 rebs, 1.6 assist, 2 blks, .3 steals, 53% fg, 77% FT. Amare gets 12.8 pts, 9.1 rebs, .8 assist, .9 blk, .8 steals, 45% FG, 67% FT. Yao is better in 5 out of the 7 categories! Granted, stats are not the only measure but the Rox improved % wise more this year than the Suns. The Rox D has also improved drastically with Yao's interior presence. Thus far, Yao is better. Case closed. Lastly, I dont mind Marbury making those claims but the guy can not even put together a complete sentence to support his claim nor put any sort of stats to convince viewers. That combined with his poor reputation (known as being a loser) discredits all of his claims in my humble opinion.
Amare is only 19 years old, let's cut him some slack. I'm not a fan of Phoeix by any stretch but you're talking about a kid who probably just got his license. Give him a few years.
Sportswriters decide who wins ROY. Fans with stats sheets do not decide. In the end, if the sportswriters like Amare more, then Amare will win.
Stoudamire is 20 years old. Same as Griffin, though Grif has been in the league a year and in college a year.
Yeah? Yao doesn't even have his driver's license! HOw about some slack for him? Yao for ROY!!! STuart
If we're gonna look at stats alone, Amare Stoudemire might actually have a chance. Cuz stats are deceiving and have always been used to deceive others. For one thing, the above stats never showed how Stoudemire plays 4 mins a game more than Yao OR how Yao NEVER gets the ball. Stats also never tells about the intangibles Yao brings to this team. Looking at it from a skill wise perspective, Stoudemire is NOT EVEN CLOSE to Yao. He's got some athleticism going for him and that's it. He has no moves (I can count them on 1 finger, drive to the right and blow past with speed), he can't shoot and he's not all that good at D. So if we're to get technical, Marbury is absolutely right, Yao is no where close to Stoudemire, in a good way. As I have said before, Stoudemire is just the latest flavor of the month. In the first month of the seaon, it was Butler and Gooden, with Yao in the backgournd. Second month, it was Yao and Dejuan Wagner. Third month, it was Stoudemire and Yao and next month it will be Yao and ______. Yao was always a contender while Stoudemire wasn't even in the picture for a long time. At the end of the seaon, Yao will be ROY and Stoudemire who? Besides, since when did we start taking Marbury's comments seriously? He's a joke.
Just a guess, but coming straight out of high school into celebrity might be a tad daunting for a 19-year-old. Give the guy a break.
Jeff, I am giving the guy a break. I think he will be very good with due time. But it is frustrating when idiots like Marbury downplay Yaos accomplishments and claim that Amare is "without question better". My post was simply pointing out that his statement is completely invalid based upon stats AND impact to the teams. This does not mean that I dislike Amare but it is a fact that Mings #s are better thus far and that he his team improved more this year vs last year. Also, Amare is 20. I assume he flunked out of school a year or got held back.
I think it is very irresponsible of NBA to allow high schoolers go straight into pro. These kids can't even sort out their priorities in life and now we thrust them into the limelight of big time NBA stars expecting them to make smooth transition. I wonder how many of them turn into drug addicts. Sigh.
I am not sure about Amare, but two years ago I interviewed rookies invited to the Clipper's summer camp for my research project. Let me tell you something. If we take away basketball from these guys, most of them have no other skills to support themselves. Many of them can't read or write at high school level. So for every Amare, there are maybe hundreds of kids who just got spitted out by this big corporate NBA machine. Think about that and cut Amare some slack.
