First I appologize if this has already been posted. I didn't see it. Some photos surfaced of U.S. soldier humiliating Iraqi POWs. They were stripped nakes and stacked ontop of one another while others were put in sexually suggestive poses. Notable quotes from the article: The publicity could not have been worse in the Arab world with the sexual humiliation depicted in the pictures particularly shocking. "That really, really is the worst atrocity," Atwan said. "It affects the honour and pride of Muslim people. It is better to kill them than sexually abuse them." Saudi Arabia's English-language Arab News daily said: "The greatest loss the Americans face is to their reputation, not simply in the Middle East but in the world at large. And with this, there is nothing we can do to win this war in Iraq. We have lost all trust of these people. Hopefully this will not increase terriorist efforts against us...but I fear that it will. W premised that the way that Sadaam treated his own people was evil. It's hard to stand on that premise now, isn't it? What if we see our own version of an Israeli vs. Palestine type of conflict? (Obviously due to proximity, it won't be the same but...) If that occurs, was the war worth it then?
If those pictures are fabricated, the Iraqi people think those pictures are real. Truth is irrelevant...perception is king. But those aren't the pictures I saw on TV this morning. Prisoners were stacked ontop of one another.
yea, these pictures are V-E-R-Y believable...cling to it, if you will, but anyone with an ounce of intelligence and common sense knows these "proof" pictures are nothing more than politicalized defecation...
And, as mentioned above, the pics don't have to be real for people to believe them. The WMD claims weren't real and yet LOTS of people believed them. (some still do)
I heard on the Today Show this morning that the military has recongized them as real pictures and working on discipline of those involved....at the LOWEST levels, instead of holding those in charge responsible. count me as ASHAMED TO BE AN AMERICAN THIS MORNING.
The liberals are truly stooping to a new low by expressing their joy over finding these pictures. They are showing them to everybody possible! Spread the word! American troops got caught red-handed breaking the rules! Please, please, please take a look at this, so that you will realize that American troops don't deserve any praise or honor! The liberals would like nothing more than to see our troops embarrassed, support for the War on Terror eroded, and America to be given a bad name. Why you ask? Simple. Because they want John Forbes Kerry in the White House. This is all disgusting. Never in my life have I seen such a blatant disregard for the well-being of America than what the liberals have done in the past few months. NEVER.
That part is true. You just ommitted the facts that the US sold those WMDs to Saddam AND that Saddam used said weapons more than a decade and a half ago while the US was still supporting him.

Well, the American soldier's reputation just did a nosedive. How could they be so shameful and stupid? This pisses me off to no end. There is no excuse. Lock them up and throw away the key. So much for winning the hearts and minds...
wow! what a turn-around...If true I apologize and take back on my statements earlier, however I'm still hesitent... But with that said, I'm still damn PROUD to be an American, because I realize there always will be a few rotten apples, just like the rotten apple who threw the hand grenades among his fellow 101st airborne combatants,...just like a former marine who killed a President,...just like the case of a former marine who killed his wife...These are the small measures of rotten apples that have been, are here, and always will be...and a damned few absolutely CANNOT take away my view of always being a proud American!
Nobody expressed joy over the pictures. You are criticizing people for showing these pictures? Why don't you criticize those responsible for the acts instead. First you degrade the service of an honored Veteran like John Kerry by not even recognizing him as a vet, and then you don't come down on those who would degrade our military by carrying out actions like this? These people are the ones shaming our troops, but committing acts like this, not those that show the truth of the actions. I think it's to place responsibilty on those that commit the crimes and not try and shift the blame elsewhere.
I don't know if they are the same set of pictures though. I think the ones that andy found are fakes, but their are others that I don't think are neccessarily sexual, just us demeaning prisoners in other ways. Anyhow, the general that was in charge is being chastised I think.
Roxran, you are absolutely right. Count me in the camp of PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN I'm not a 'bandwagon-American'. I'm not a proud American only when things are going well. I'm here through thick and thin. I look down upon anyone weak enough to jump ship after one public relations incident (if it's even true).
Again, you stoop to lying and misrepresenting. Nobody (at least nobody here) has expressed anything remotely approaching "joy" over finding these pictures. If troops are found bending or breaking rules, specifically the rules of warfare, they should be punished. Apparently, you think that anything is OK during a war, but there are rules that must be followed. So far, YOU are the only one who has said that they don't deserve praise and honor. I, like the liberals you decry, believe that the TROOPS (at least the ones who don't break the rules) deserve our praise and honor, it is the elected officials that have put them in this situation that deserve to be pilloried. Our troops HAVE BEEN embarrassed, support for the War on Terror HAS BEEN eroded, and America HAS BEEN given a bad name by the chickenhawks who chose to pursue an unjust war in Iraq rather than finishing the job in Afghanistan. That is hilarious. Never in MY life have I seen such a blatant disregard for the well-being of America than what this administration has done in the past year and a half. NEVER.
