We had a deal in place for Vince Carter last season?

uge rift between the Rockets and McGrady, I’m told by a source, began last year at the trade deadline. The Rockets had a deal in place to send McGrady to New Jersey for Vince Carter and other pieces, similar to the Nets-Magic deal on draft night. When McGrady’s agent Arn Tellem informed his client he was about to be on the move, McGrady abruptly ended his season by saying he needed micro-fracture surgery on his ailing knee.

Unfortunately, McGrady didn’t tell the Rockets until after his decision was made.

“My knee hasn’t been right all year, and we can’t seem to get the pain to go away,” McGrady wrote on his Web site Feb. 18th, one day before the trade deadline.

“We’ve tried just playing through it, taking back-to-backs off, and extended periods of rest, but none of it has really been effective in limiting the discomfort and allowing me to just go out there and play.”
    The Rockets’ reaction?

“I found out like everybody else did,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman told the Houston Chronicle. “I think there should be a protocol there. There should be a procedure where we have a chance to sit down and talk about a situation and not (have it) announced in the press. I don’t know why that happened, why he did that. It certainly is not the way it should be handled.”
And the friction has led up until this year.

“The Rockets are still mad. They had sent the trade to the league,” another source told me. “They were ready to ship him out and McGrady killed it.”

One of the sources told me the Rockets were in heated discussions with the Kings as well…McGrady wasn’t having any part of a deal.
I also read the report about the Rockets demands of Jordan Hill or Toney Douglas. I would have to believe that if a rookie were involved, Jared Jeffries would go as well. Maybe a third team will have to be involved.

We should probably thank Tracy for that one.

If he wouldn't have announced that we would have been locked into VC's contract & not have the flexibility we have now.

I do not doubt that the Rockets had a deal done involving McGrady. I just dont know if it was for Carter. Carter's name has been brought up before, but I never felt that there were enough sources validating it.

Is anyone really surprised the Rockets have a grudge against McGrady? After all his antics I am sure they are pissed. They finally have leverage when it comes to dealing with him. They are going to stick it to him.

I have also posted this before, but I will tell you one thing with absolute certainty- if McGrady had three years left on his deal there would be absolutely no chance he would be playing this year. Because it is contract year he has worked hard and now wants to play. If he had millions left, we would hear things like, "my knee is not ready", " I am not coming back until I am 100%", etc.

just imagine Rockets vs. Lakers with Vince Carter, Artest, AB, and potentially Yao Ming.

    Tracy can go **** himself.

And some people wonder why the Rox have no interest helping him in his "contract" year.

The dude took a dump in his own bed.

If we had traded for VC last season, we would have been able to trade him to Orlando, the same way that New Jersey was able to.

......just looked up VC's stats for this season.......he is sucking big time.

I agree it would have fudged us for the future. However, Carter-Artest-Ming wouldn't have been bad in last years playoffs...

Remember, though, that (1) New Jersey was in all-out "blow up the team, start over and try to get the #1 pick" mode, which the Rockets were not (even with the injury to Yao); and (2) the Nets also had to give up Ryan Anderson, who many GMs believed was a QUALITY young player. Morey has developed a reputation around the league for "over-valuing" his own players. I doubt that Morey would have given away a comparable player (think somewhere between what Chase is now and what Scola was last year) just to dump Carter. Oh, yeah, and I don't know how bringing Rafer back would have worked after the trade last season.

I doubt thorn and morey could've ever worked out a deal. Part of it is what you've said about morey and the other part is thorn has to always feel he wins a trade. Those 2 conflicts just don't match.

Were are the Tracy bashers on this? Do were seriously not think that Tracy didn't save Rocket fans years of horrible suffering by doing what he did? If that was the deal In place then Morey should of been carted out of town. I can't spent 5 seconds figuring how in any way DM thought this would of helped the rockets future.

yeah let's thank T-mac for knowing what was good for this team.

the goal last season was to win a championship and I'd rather have had a O.K Carter than a T-mac calling espn claiming surgery to kill our championship hopes for the season.

you you honestly believe the words you posted you need to extract yourself from McGrady's junk.

Did anyone watch the Lakers Magic game on Tuesday? Vince Carter is utterly worthless. His BB IQ is terrible and he plays with just as much or even less intensity as TMAC. (They are in the same family). I think our chances would have been worse with Carter, he kills the flow of our offense.
