http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...lug=aw-gaygrizzlies110209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns although ariza>gay any day, but ill take gay over johnson
People, Rudy Gay is NOT going to solve the Rockets problems. He's one dimensional, and plays absolutely ZERO defense.
the only ones we have a chance of getting is Joe Johnson and Amare but y would you want both of them, joe johnson got shut down by ron artest yesterday, hes just a streky shooter, and we already have that in ariza. id rather take a risk on rudy gay and still have the money to get a 10m player. and amare? i rather have scola n landry
I don't get why some people are so eager to get Gay. It's almost as though they think they can't score without getting Gay. Would you take Johnson if you can't get Gay?
Gay isn't a bad scorer,in fact he is a pretty good one, but there is no need for him on the Rockets. Ariza is a better overall player than him. Joe Johnson is a good player, but I'm not keen on throwing big money at him.
Would you trade Battier for Gay? (Supposedly, we know the Grizzlies would never do that.) I sure would.
Gay is improving as a scorer, but I don't see a place for him on the Rockets with Ariza and the promising Budinger around. If Batum was fit,I would pick him and Outlaw(who has a 4M expiring contract) for Battier. I'm of the opinion that we won't get anything of significance for Tracy and that Yao is not likely to last throughout next year. Even if he does,we aren't likely to win with him. I also feel that most teams will worry about his health and thus his trading value will go down. I feel we should rebuild with youth and get more draft picks.
Tracy's "trading value" is that he makes a team a contender in the 2010 free agency market ($23million expiring). Personally, I think Tracy will come back fine early December, but that's for another thread. On the current topic - why in the heck would we want to get Rudy Gay back We've got a far superior defender in Ariza, who is showing flashes on the offensive end. We're really looking for a long 4/5 in the free agency market - perhaps even trading Ming for such a player and then adding another peice? All I can say is that rebuilding through the draft very rarely works. Make the moves via trade and free-agency or sink for a long time.
You can never have enough scorers on a team. I for one believe Gay could pick up his defense on a more motivated team. I feel the same about the need for getting young.
Did I say,we should get Rudy Gay? You're repeating pretty much what I've said. I don't think Tracy's expiring will get us much in return, long term contracts for players who might not fit in well is more likely IMO. I don't have a problem with trading Ming, but his value is low right now for obvious reasons and might still not be good enough when he comes back because of his repeated fractures despite the surgery. Building through the draft is much harder and requires luck too,but I don't think we will be able to get what we need from trading Yao and Tracy. If we do,get good offers for either one of them,we should go for it. I like Yao more than anyone on the team, but I love the Rockets more than any individual.
I think by taking Johnson, you automatically get Gay. That being said, I only want Johnson if he can come up big during crunch time.
