...for a tough rebounding PF. I think the problem with us right now is the team keep on giving second chance points. If we secure those rebounds we will avoid any close game losses just like what hapened. As for the PG, we're blessed enough to see what Andre Barrett can bring to us and Sura will be back to help. So, this makes the PF position the most urgent thing we need to address...

I still think we should have atleast offered Swift a contract. I'm not saying the guy is a monster on the boards but definitely someone who can provide weak side shot blocking for this team (something pretty much non existent on this team). Plus the guy run the court like a guard. Not to mention baord better than our guys, which isn't hard to do. While I agree pf is the spot that needs the most help who is available that would be smart to bring in for this team??

My guess is it is because he is old. He should have been out of the game years ago but he can't go home because he hates his wife.

There are many reasons we didn't go after Stro. First, all we had to offer Swift was our MLE. MEM had/has Stro's Bird Rights and could easily match and were not letting him go for that cheap. On the off chance the Grizz feel asleep and didn't match, we'd have had a 5th PF with Lue and Gaines as our PG's....IOW, no money for Sura, Ward or any one else.

And please skip the outrageous trade proposals. Jerry and Hubie weren't going to pay Mo $8+m to backup Gasol.

As far as who is coming in to upgrade PF (or PG), there are way too many variables at this point....3 months to the trade deadline, a ~5.9m TE expiring June 30, 2005, a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (or another lock out) for 2005-06 , free agency....

and don't forget...by not offering Stro a contract, nothing ever happened--best possible situation, since now he's unrestricted. At least there's an outside shot with the full MLE, though he'll probably get more.

I agree that this team needs a rebounding PF. What is frsutrating is the Rockets are VERY high in the NBA in FG% defense but that doesnt mean spit when you give the other team tons of extra shots to make up for their lack of shooting. And we keep doing this each night because of our lack of rebounding. Teams are just quicker to the rebounds than we are. We are VERY slow laterally. We just can't get the boards!

Yao is probably going to be good for 8-10 rebounds a night. I am not sure we will ever get more than that on a consistant basis. GATER has convinced me, what this team needs is an athletic, long rebounding PF. Someone that has decent lateral quickness. I am not sure a "bruiser" PF is the ideal candidate.
And yes Stromile Swift would be ideal. But I dont see us getting it done with Stormile.

Stromile will be an UNrestricted FA after this season. He is looking for the kind of money that Okur,Boozer,Camby,R Wallce got which is somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10M per season. That is just something we dont have. I dont see Stromile taking full MLE money such as what Foyle got. Maybe I am wrong, but I dont see it. Some team such as Atlanta will offer him more than we will and players (especially young ones) ALWAYS go where the most money is.

Quite frankly I am not sure if the Rockets will ever be in a situation where they will UNDER the cap to offer those kinds of big contracts. Their BEST hope in my opinion in the next few years is to hope to find a team with a player we like and is willing to sell off that players big contract for one of our expiring contracts in Spoon (next year) or Taylor (2 years).

Other than that, we would have to be "lucky" and hit the jackpot on a mid first round draft pick.

So Gater, are you still eagerly anticipating the use of the trade exception to complete the Glen Rice trade?

Why Rockets didn't offer Larry Brown a contract in time is another thing I don't understand.

I'd trade Mo for PJ Brown. The contracts are very similar.

If Tyson Chandler or NENE are available, the Rockets need to do everything in their power to get one of those guys. I’d be willing to give up one of our power forwards and Jim Jackson.
